When I listen to music, it puts me in the most blissful mood, no matter my surroundings. Every month I try to switch up the songs I listen to and try to discover new artists – whether it be old or new. It has been a goal of mine to discover more music on a monthly basis and to expand my knowledge of music and their backstories. I have curated a list of ten songs that have been on my playlist this month that are perfect for this time of year. All YouTube links to the songs are provided in the description.

1. Keep Breathing – Ingrid Michaelson

Attention Grey’s Anatomy fans! This may be familiar to you and will make your heart wrench once again. However, it carries a strong message; no matter how daunting and stressful life may be (not to be cheesy but) all you can do is keep breathing through it and this too shall pass.

2. Tears Dry On Their Own – Amy Winehouse

Amy does it again with this classic song that will be sure to make you say goodbye to sad girl hours and hello to hot girl fall!

3. Timshel – Mumford and Sons

Two words: tear jerker. There is something about this song that is so simple and so beautiful, it’s a piece that will make you reflect and think of everything you love in life, give her a listen—and get tissues!

4. Work – Charlotte Day Wilson

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z-HsbovI4E

This song brings all the feels ~ definitely one for reminiscing on a long walk or a quiet night in.

5. Overload – John Legend and Miguel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7A6e9pUtq0

Two of the most iconic voices of R&B in one track? Yep, you read that right. You will feel like you’re being serenaded by the amazing voice of John Legend himself (sorry Chrissy Teigen).

6. 50 Souls and a Discobowl – Boy Pablo (Only available on Spotify)

https://open.spotify.com/track/4HL64eE6Tg7DOHRLZ1Wgd3?si=Sywo4DdfQBeWXRiHVqWLZg

Midterms and papers got you down? Sing and dance your worries away to the positive vibes of this jam—definitely a must after a long 10 hour cram session in McLennan.

7. Fast Car – Tracy Chapman

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwrHwZyFN7M

An oldie but a goodie! Tracy Chapman will never fail to amaze with this song, no matter how many times I play this song, it never gets old. The acoustic tune and beautiful message is what truly makes this a timeless piece.

8. Somewhere Only We Know – Keane

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwrHwZyFN7M

This is my all time favourite song to play around this time of year; best suited for a long stroll down memory lane. Curl up by the fire with a hot chocolate and get ready for all the fall feels.

9. Big Boy – Charlotte Cardin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DboauquUv8

I first heard this song in a cafe and I immediately fell in love; something about Charlotte Cardin’s voice is so light and airy, this will be sure to be on the top your playlist after you give it a listen.

10. Gravity – John Mayer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iGOWk-r614

Need I say anything about this masterpiece? The guitar, the voice, the lyrics; sheer perfection. John Mayer, you did it again.

Hopefully you found something new or recognize a familiar title! Happy jamming!
