Fitness can either be a word people like to hear or completely dread. The vast population wants to live healthier, look better or just be confident enough in their own skin.

Living an active life isn’t easy for everyone. Some people’s schedules can be hectic and others just have zero idea where to start. Besides doing exercise, one of the most important things about fitness is eating clean and healthy but that’s for another article.

When thinking about working out, most people assume that means going to a regular gym that’s fully equipped such as Planet Fitness, LA Fitness and 24 Hours.

However, fitness has become a huge business and movement that different types of gyms have begun to pop up such as Orange Theory, Bootcamps and Cross-Fit. These types of gyms tend to be group focused and have personal trainers but it does tend to be on the pricier side when it comes to memberships.

If budget is important considering the more common gyms will be the best option. Memberships in those locations tend to range from $10 a month to $40 and have unlimited access to the facility and its equipment (might vary depending on the company). The downside for some might be that attending these gyms means completely doing everything on your own.

When one is first starting out on a fitness journey, it’s easy to be held back due to lack of knowledge on how to exercise. However, there’s a huge platform called YouTube that holds the key to most answers. Many people have begun to become what is now known as a Fitness Guru or Influencer. These people will make YouTube videos showing step by step what routines they are performing. They also have a variety of workouts from cardio to weight lifting.

Coming prepared to the gym is a great way to feel motivated and to not be scared. Following fitness-savvy people on other social media platforms is the best way to start understanding what to do at the gym. Influencers like Whitney Simmons and Melissa Alcantara stay up to date on their Instagrams, and other platforms showing their followers workout routines and tips.

If LA Fitness sounds intimidating trying a different approach such as Orange Theory, where they can facilitate work outs for you. These types of facilities have trainers there to assist and tell you what to do. A membership here costs $160 for unlimited classes and it does offer a free first time class that allows people to try out the facilities before committing, especially with such a costly fee.

Just like Orange Theory, Boot Camps and Cross Fit gyms also offer free classes, and the chance for future members to tour the gym to get a feel of what it is all about.
