College life can be stressful, with schoolwork, exams, and paying for necessities every college student knows the struggle of managing finances and time in college. But how do you have fun and save money on a tight budget? Many college students work or receive a set amount of money from their families. There are many ways to save money but some activities that are relatively cheap in college are:

1) Look for free local events in your area!

This is especially useful if you live in or near a city. Inviting a friend and going to a local event is a great way to become closer to your friend and even meet more people in your community! Many areas around colleges offer free events with music, food or social gatherings! Check them out on Facebook or on other online bulletins.

2) Have an event/ get together at your place!

If you live in a dorm or have roommates make sure they’re on board too! Invite some friends over, having everyone bring a dish can help spread the cost out! If you have a TV you can watch a show, or a sports game, or listen to some music and just chat!

3) Most college students already know that cable is so old fashioned, but by cutting cable and signing up for streaming services can save you buckets of money a month!

Spotify has teamed up with Hulu and Showtime to offer a bundle deal for just $4.99 a month! You sign up through Spotify and verify that you’re a student with your student email, then you just add Hulu and Showtime through your Spotify account and you have access to hundreds of shows and music!

4) Another great activity that is free and helps to meet people in your community is volunteering!

It’s a great activity and not only does it benefit you, but it benefits those you are helping. There are many ways to volunteer, either through your school, local animal shelter or soup kitchen!

5) Still, want to eat out and enjoy activities that cost money? Try Groupon!

Groupon is a free app you can download on your phone that offers discounted deals on food, beauty, and entertainment! Surf through the various deals in your area and find a sweet deal on an activity you want to do! Saving money in college can be hard, and maintaining social activities while on a budget is definitely a struggle but there are ways to cut back on costs and still have a great time!
