I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY!!!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

This article is for that girl in 4th grade who was the ¨fat friend¨. This article is for the skinny girl in 7th grade who still was so body conscious. The girl who watched the youtube tutorials of mixed girls with long curly hair, the 9th grade girl who did bantu knots out and thought she was ugly when it did not look like the girl on instagram. The girl who thought that if the boys did not like or talk to her she was ugly, the girl who added filters on every picture to try and appear lighter. This article is for the old me, the Deja who knew one day she would love herself but never knew when that day would come. I’m writing this article to tell that girl why it is okay to be a little cocky!

I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY! I belittled every single thing I have done, I never gave myself full credit for anything I have done. I was the school President in 6th grade, the Soccer captain in 8th, Class president in 10th, Executive Vice President in 12th, ROTC lieutenant, Varsity soccer captain, and you may want me to stop the list but I’m not, because this is the article where I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY! I turned my 2.8 cumulative GPA to a 3.9 and graduated top 5%, I was the Peer leader captain, an IB diploma candidate, and in National Honor Society. I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY! I can because I got accepted to every single school I applied to, because I had the most achievements out of my whole graduating class.

Often times people want me to not be cocky and in this article I say it okay to be a little cocky because sometimes I forget how much I have done. It is okay to say ¨I AM THE BADDEST, SMARTEST, and BEST CHIC¨ because we earned it. I’m writing this article because sometimes you not only have to remind others of how wonderful I am and how appreciative they should be to be able to witness me. Yeah I said it ¨you should appreciate being able to witness me ̈ ! This article was written to let you all know how its okay to be a little cocky. It took me so long to become a little cocky. I had nothing to be cocky about a few ago if you let me tell it. I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY become I am strong and confident enough to cut those people off who tried to take advantage of me off.

¨The worst feeling is getting played by a person you lowered your standards for”.  I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY because by the time people realize my worth I will be worth way more. In this article I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY because I know what I bring to the table and I´m not afraid to eat alone. I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY because the things I use to trip on I´m stepping over now. I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY because I know I shine so bright that it burns people’s eyes.

I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY. I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY. I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY because I am DEJA ANJAIL DODSON! I am that girl in 4th grade who was the ¨fat friend¨. The skinny girl in 7th grade who still was so body conscious. I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY because that was the old me who did not know when the day would come, the day that I would love myself. I’m writing this article to tell that girl why it is okay to be a little cocky! Deja you can be a little cocky because you have been pushed to the side, underappreciated, and if nobody will say it you are that CHIC! I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY! I CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY! YOU CAN BE A LITTLE COCKY because you are that chic! You are strong, beautiful, and amazing! Pat yourself on the back and tell everyone that you are the BADDEST SMARTEST, and BEST CHIC¨ because you earned it. I’m writing this article to you not me. I’m writing this to you because I have realized that I am the sugar honey ice tea….. Have you?
