“The most alluring thing a woman can have is confidence” – Beyonce. Living in a social media world makes confidence is hard to come by. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others’ lives on a screen. It is the norm to put on a front for social media but be insecure in real life. Confidence is feeling fabulous on the inside as well as outside. It is practiced and can be acquired at any stage or age in life. These five tips will help you with this important skill.

Be unapologetically yourself

If you are living your life worrying about what others think of you, is it really your life? The answer is no. If you let others’ opinions stop you from what you are doing, it is not hurting anyone but yourself. Also, nine times out of ten, they’re not even worried; it is just in your head. Do not overthink something that you know you want to do. If you want to start that business, start it. If you want to wear that bold red lip, wear it. The only person stopping you, is you. Once you stop yourself, the only thing that is going to be going through your mind is “What if?” and regrets.

Make sure you feel as pretty on the inside as you look on the outside

“My beauty routine is more how it makes me feel, than how it transforms me into some version of myself that I can’t keep up with- Tracee Ellis Ross. No matter how popping your lashes are, how laid your edges are or how dope your outfit is, if you do not feel good on the inside it will reflect on the outside. If you feel beautiful within, it will shine on the outside no matter if you are glammed up or not.

Fake it till you make it

Look in the mirror everyday and say “I look good, I look real good.” Say this once you wake up and before you go to bed or every time you look in the mirror. Constantly saying uplifting words to yourself will make you believe it. Saying words of affirmation to yourself will keep you pushing and build your confidence. Yes, it feels good when other people say how nice you look or how pretty you are, but self-love starts with you.

Learn that is is okay to make mistakes

It is okay to slip up, mess up and make mistakes. However, it is not okay to bring yourself down once this happens. Pick yourself up and continue pushing because it is all about trial and error. “Failure is not a person, it is an event.” Speaking of failure, the word “no” should not break your confidence either. NO only equals “New Opportunities.” Do not dwell on that two letter word because you do not know what door will be opened next. What’s for you won’t pass you by and if you were rejected it was not made for you in the first place.

Do not compare yourself to others online

In this generation, this is one of the biggest factors regarding low self-esteem. Comparing yourself to something on a phone screen is not the best idea because no one knows what that person is really going through in real life. It is okay to admire what that person has on or how clear their skin is, but do not look in the mirror and compare. There is only one you for a reason and if you are not being you, then who will?
