If you’re into shows such as Black Mirror, this book is for you. Set near the present time, it is an electrifying story of two friends and the dark choices that they make to change the world as we know it forever. Two influencers strive for online fame while government-appointed celebrities are never allowed off the camera, illustrating some of the harsh truths about social media that seem more fact than fiction.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin
Hey, I never said all of the books in this article were new. Pride and Prejudice is a true cult classic and is still one of the most popular novels in the English language. If you haven’t read this novel yet, it follows the vivacious Elizabeth Bennet and her romantic clash with the proud Mr. Darcy. Set in the 1800s, this novel is a true Victorian love story—just with a few bumps along the way.
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Cristie
While on his way to London, the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is booked on the infamous Orient Express. Among his fellow passengers is a wealthy American who has rather an unfortunate turn of fate as he was found dead with multiple stab wounds. One of the 13 passengers on board must be responsible, and all will find themselves suspects of his murder. If you ever wanted to read a game of Clue, now is your chance!
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Great Gatsby is a true American classic. It follows the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the married Daisy Buchanan. Through lavish parties and the roaring ’20s follow Gatsby’s tumultuous life at a time when The New York Times noted: “gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession”.
Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling
The holidays are truly the best time to break out one of my all-time favorites, Harry Potter. I will assume you know the basics because if you don’t, I don’t know where you were as a child. Break out those wands and chocolate frogs, because winter is the best time to indulge yourself, in all ways.
As the temperatures lower and the fires roar, let yourself relax with a nice cup of coffee and a good book: you won’t regret it.
