Lauren’s Listening Club here with 10 songs you’re not going to want to miss! Some tunes good for walking to class, dancing alone, screaming at the top of your lungs, and everything in between. Follow lauren’s listening club by laur.now on Spotify. Feedback is highly encouraged, happy listening!

“Don’t Let the Kids Win” by Julia Jacklin Lots to unpack here…I’ll just leave it at, “that’s the best shit I’ve ever seen” for now.

“Water Me Down” by Vagabon Extremely disappointed in Angel Olsen’s crowd for not giving Lætitia the respect she deserves during her performance. A truly captivating opening set in an intimidating venue by someone who has noticeably had to go the extra mile in order to get the representation she deserves. I could not more highly recommend a full listen to her fairly recently debuted self title!

“New Love Cassette” by Angel Olsen Bet you didn’t think head banging to anything on this album at a live Angel Olsen show was possible…think again folks.

“Eulogy for You and Me” by Tanya Davis If this semester were played back on a tape in biopic fashion, this song would play in the background.

“My Friend” by Bill Callahan I’m not exactly sure what this song is about, but, as per usual, I’ve got intersectionality on my mind and I think this song really speaks volumes if listening from an intersectional lens. “I’m not saying we’re cut from the same tree, but like two pieces of the gallows…we share the same dream.” My friends, it is imperative that we stay active in this fight for social justice. Be allies for those with different backgrounds from yourself and make damn sure you’re advocating for EVERYONE to get the time and space they deserve to share their thoughts, opinions, and experiences.

“Name in Lights” by Loose Tooth Y’all know I’m not one to listen to covers all day long, but the Milk On Milk (Compilation) album is a MUST LISTEN. I didn’t think it could get any better than Courtney Barnett’s rendition of “Keep On,” but then I heard this track.

“Last Chance At Love” by Pinc Louds Been listening to this group for a while, but have neglected to share them with you until now. The wait is over! I love this group given the diversity between members, but also for that fascinating sound of theirs. It’s almost as if Squirrel Nut Zippers meet Hurray For The Riff Raff?

“La Femme Fetal” by Digable Planets Did I mention that it’s Women’s Empowerment Week? Even my Discover Weekly algorithm knew! I hope everyone has been able to swing by the events our lovely OWLs members have so generously created and hosted, or have celebrated empowerment in your own way if you haven’t been able to be in attendance. Side note: can we make this the official pro-choice song?

“Clint Eastwood” by Gorillaz and “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + The Machine There’s a lot of varying adjectives I could use to express my feelings about my debut performance happening tomorrow. Instead of asking about it, come out to the show in support of OWLs! I can’t release all of the details, but rest assured that our attempt in covering these two songs and a very special solo lo-no number are something you’re not going to want to miss.
