If you are anything like me, you love Christmas. You love everything about Christmas; the decorations, the shopping, the gift giving, the music, everything! So why should we cut our time of holiday festivities short and limit the Christmas cheer to only the month of December? Here’s the thing, we shouldn’t have to and those of us who love Christmas enough should feel free to decorate as soon as the first of November rolls around and the fun of Halloween is over!
I grew up in a house that started their Christmas decorating almost instantly after the pumpkins and cobwebs of Halloween came down. Every year during the week before Thanksgiving my mom starts to put up the five Christmas trees that have always been a staple of our holiday traditions. This idea of getting into the Christmas spirit as soon as possible is something that has been instilled in me and even during my first semester and my first time away from home. I was listening to Christmas music the day after Halloween, and not long into November the string of paper pumpkins I decorated my dorm with were replaced by a small Christmas tree and countdown to Christmas that has taken over my letter board.
For many people, Christmas is the best time of the year! It is a time of celebrating with family and friends, where everyone takes a break from work and from school and takes some time to think about others and spend time with those that they love. If this holiday spirit can start a little earlier, and go beyond the month of December, why not partake? Why not enjoy your favorite part of the holiday season for a few weeks extra? Whether it be decorating before Thanksgiving, enjoying those Starbucks holiday beverages, or listening to every version and cover of “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, enjoy those things that make Christmas special to you!
