This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for so many unbelievable things. My life has changed so much within the past year and I have seen myself grow even more as a person. I have many people and things to thank for this, so for this week’s article I will be doing just that. Thanking each and every person (whether you’re named or referenced) and everything that has helped me grow this past year until now.

I would first like to thank my family for absolutely everything. Every opportunity and step I have taken in my life would mean nothing without their support. To my parents and brother, your endless love, support, confidence, and faith in me has helped me immensely. The beginning of the school year was a struggle, but knowing you guys were there every step of the way was a huge blessing. To every grandparent (because there are a few of you), thank you for checking in and loving me with all your heart. I know how hard it is on you to not hear from me or see me all the time, but I am always thinking of you and love you very much.

Next, all of the friends I have made on this campus and left at home. We are all close in different ways, but we each share one very important thing, compassion for one another. There isn’t a day that goes by where one of us doesn’t check on the other making sure we are okay. To my girls back home (you know who you are), thanks for sticking around, you guys are my go-to girls and I hope it stays that way forever. I think it helps that the two of you only live just down the street and three minutes away. For my ladies here at school, so much has been shared between us all and there are tons more memories to come. Much love!

This year I also chose to get involved on campus. Of course, I joined Her Campus and it has be extremely eye opening. Getting to express myself through a platform that I love is incredible. I have been writing for as long as I can remember so the fact that I can continue to do so in such an amazing club with awesome girls is something I will always cherish. I also joined Susquehanna’s newspaper, The Quill, and have been writing the sports articles for some time now. Carrying on my passion for writing and sports with more amazing people on campus is something I never saw myself doing, but I am, and I am thankful for that every day.

Of course I wouldn’t be doing any of that without being at college in the first place. Coming here is one of the scariest things I have ever done. While leaving home is usually a major deterrent for students, I was excited by the thought of getting out on my own. Since doing so, I have experienced so many new people and things and made connections I otherwise wouldn’t have. Having the ability to attend this beautiful university is something I will forever be thankful for. GO RIVERHAWKS!

Lastly, I am thankful for my strength and courage. I faced many struggles at the beginning of the year and have since been working to overcome them. Being able to use my voice to get people to hear me was something I always struggled with, but this year I did it. I have participated more in class, gotten an on-campus job, made connections, received aid from others, and more. None of this would have been possible without my own personal growth throughout the year and I am thankful I was able to reach this point.

This Thanksgiving I am blessed to be surrounded by loved ones and good vibes. I would change absolutely nothing about this year and I cannot wait to see what the future holds. In light of the holiday, I hope everyone is able to be thankful for one thing or another. Now, let’s go sit down and have some turkey! Happy Thanksgiving!
