With finals week quickly approaching, we find ourselves scrambling to hand in all our final assignments and papers. Then, we prepare to study for our final exams. We’re also thinking of what special item of ours we’ll be donating to Testudo, in hopes that our offerings will be rewarded with good grades.

The thought of finals week is daunting to all, and it is important that we find time for ourselves during it. Luckily, the campus offers some cool ways to de-stress during this period, and I’m here to share with you what they are.

1. Wags for Wellness Therapy Dog Visits

The University of Maryland Health Center offers drop-in therapy dog visits. Wags for Wellness sessions have registered therapy animal teams. The teams consist of one human and one dog. This December, you can visit these furry friends on either December 2nd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stamp Student Involvement Suite and December 12th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University Health Center, according to the University of Maryland Health Center’s website. I mean, who doesn’t love puppies anyway?

2. S’more Studying

December 2nd, the STAMP Study Zone is offering a fun, tasty way to kick back and study with your friends. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m you can come to the MICA Lounge to study while munching on some nice s’mores and other sweet treats. Hopefully, there’s some hot chocolate, too!

3. Make Your Own Stress Ball

December 10th, the Student Involvement Suite in STAMP is offering a make your own stress ball session from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Not only will you de-stress while making it, but be able to use it all throughout finals week — killing two birds with one stone.

4. 12 Minute Massages

December 12th, come get a 12-minute massage break from your studies in the Student Involvement Suite in STAMP. Time slots will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Make sure to get there on time before they are filled up!

5. Color the Stress Away

December 13th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. walk over to the MICA Lounge to color your stress away. Feel free to get the creative juices flowing through some coloring!

An event support staff member at STAMP and senior at the University of Maryland, MK Murphy, weighed in on what the events STAMP is hosting. “Exam season can be rough, so I’m grateful that our school, as well as my staff, has taken initiative to focus on student’s mental health during this stressful time,” Murphy said.

Carmen Bodziak, who also is an event support staff member and senior at the University of Maryland spoke to us, too.

“Seeing students come together to execute amazing events is so exciting to watch and I love being a part of it,” she said. “In a central location full of staff, many of whom are students who care deeply about UMD, STAMP is the perfect place to relax before and during finals week. Come out and de-stress with us!”

Gather up your buddies and head to campus to de-stress this finals season!
