What Your Favorite Christmas Song Says About You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

I don’t know about you guys, but the day after Thanksgiving my Christmas playlist can be heard at full volume at any given time of the day. With so many songs to choose from, there are probably hundreds of songs on my playlist. This year, I noticed that all the ones on my playlist have the same kind of vibe (lots of Michael Bublé) which got me thinking that maybe our taste in Christmas music says a little bit about us, more than your typical everyday music.

Any Michael Bublé Christmas song: Aren’t you just the classiest? You totally picture yourself with a mug of hot chocolate next to a fireplace wearing some kind of Christmas sweater watching an old probably black and white Christmas classic.

“Last Christmas”: You’re still not over your first boyfriend. No judgment, we’ve all been there.

“All I Want For Christmas Is You”: Every time this song comes on, your inner diva comes to the surface. You’re a bad b*tch full of sass, ready to slay the holidays in full beat and some sort of hot outfit. Oh, and you can totally hit those whistle tones at the end.

“The Christmas Song”: You’re an old soul. You like traditions and love spending time with your family over the holidays.

“Mistletoe”: You’re young at heart, still lowkey fangirling over how cute little JB was.

“Winter Wonderland”: You probably daydream a lot.

“Blue Christmas”: You like thrift shopping and cute little knick-knacks you get from those random souvenir stores.

“Do They Know It’s Christmas”: You wish you were born in the ‘80s.

“Let It Snow”: You’re in love and it’s the holidays and life is just going great for you, isn’t it?

“White Christmas”: You’ve seen White Christmas.

“My Favorite Things”: Either you’re a theatre kid or you really like the raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens.

“Mary, Did You Know?”: You were probably in an acapella group in high school and performed the Pentatonix arrangement and now the song is still stuck in your head (I’m totally not still singing all the background vocals and harmonies when this comes on).

“Silent Night”: You like traditions and probably decorated your tree with metallic ornaments. Oh, and there’s a nativity somewhere in your household.

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside”: Spicy. Probably on the naughty list.

“I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: You can’t wait to get home from college and you cry when your family greets you at the airport.

“Jingle Bells”: Hmmmm, you sure this is your favorite?

“Jingle Bell Rock”: On Wednesdays you wear pink.

“Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”: You still haven’t fully gotten over the idea that you’re an adult now and you need to pay for things and buy gifts.

“Mi Burrito Sabanero”: You grew up in Miami or this is the only Spanish you know other than “Feliz Navidad.”

“Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”: bye.
