Your Ultimate Guide to Using the Law of Attraction

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

Chances are you’ve heard of the Law of Attraction at one point or another in recent years. With documentaries like The Secret being released on Netflix and a generational obsession with the mantra “good vibes only”, our culture is beginning to understand the importance of getting the most out of life and looking for ways to do it. Countless people swear by the Law of Attraction as a way to understand the world and have the best possible life… But what is all of the hype really about?

The Law of Attraction, simply put, states that you attract what you put out into the world. Your energy will come back to you at the same frequency. For example, focusing on the positive things in life will allow for positive things to return to you. In contrast, focusing on the negative things in life will draw negative outcomes towards you. Sounds simple, right?

It is. It is so simple, in fact, that anyone can benefit from it. No external tools or resources are needed to fulfill the needs of the Law of Attraction. Rather, it is an intentional effort towards self-improvement that takes place internally and has the capacity to completely turn your life around.

Those who practice the Law of Attraction are often passionate about spreading the word and enlightening others about the practice. At first, the concept may be intimidating for individuals who are turned off by the idea of viewing the world in a mystical, intangible way. However, the truth is that you don’t have to be a spiritual guru to implement the Law of Attraction in your life. There are some fundamental practices that can guide anyone to getting what they want and need as an individual.

Recognize Your Fears and Doubts.

It is completely normal to have fears and doubts about the things you want to attract into your life. Thoughts may come such as: Do I deserve these things? Can I handle them? What if it doesn’t work out? To combat these feelings, you must first recognize that they exist within you (often subconsciously) and subsequently approach them with compassion and understanding.

You can weaken the frequencies coming from your subconscious fears and doubts by keeping your best interests in mind and working towards what you believe will benefit you most. Acknowledging these fearful thoughts and then letting them go because they are are no longer serving you will bring you a step closer to your goals.

Using Positive Affirmations.

This is perhaps the most important component that encapsulates what the Law of Attraction can do for you. Positive affirmations are the phrases you say to yourself to feel good, to overcome challenges, and to combat negative thoughts. Our inner voice is often difficult to manage because our thoughts tend to come automatically and our negative feelings can hide in our subconscious. For many people, their inner voice spits out harsh critiques about the world, others, and themselves. In order to start using positive affirmations, one must disrupt this process of negative thinking and replace it with soothing and fulfilling statements. Once practiced consistently, you will begin to see great changes in your outlook on life. This is the foundation for attracting the things that you want.

Act as Though you Already have it.

A great way to manifest your greatest desires and needs is to act as if you’ve already obtained them. When imagining reaching your goals and ambitions, also imagine how you would feel once you have successfully met them. Talk to yourself and others about your goals confidently, like they will undeniably be met. Your ambitions are not just something you want, but also something you need in order to change your world for the better. Therefore, the only option is to reach them.

Dream Big.

Don’t be afraid to have big dreams. Don’t set limits on your goals simply because you’re afraid they’re unattainable. Once you’re fully committed to the process, anything is attainable. This might be hard to believe and you may wonder why, if the Law of Attraction gives people anything they want, so many people feel overwhelmed by limitations and struggle to make their goals a reality. This is because the Law of Attraction takes a significant amount of persistence and dedication; something that many people are just not willing to invest the time in! Once you understand the extent to which you must commit yourself to the Law of Attraction, the sky truly is the limit. All you have to do is try it for yourself!
