NEWSFLASH: The Starbucks Holiday Drinks Are Not for Me

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  We LOVE the holidays here at HC Lasell.  Going home for the holidays just got a bit sweeter with our holiday-themed articles this week perfect to get even the Grinch into the holiday spirit.  Grab your hot cocoa and dive in!

Everyone seems to love Starbucks, especially their limited edition drinks. As much as I love Starbucks and throw my money at them, I am not happy with their limited edition drinks and have never been a fan of their limited edition drinks. Before you take away my Starbucks reward card and ban me from every Starbucks hear me out.

When I think of fast coffee, I am quick to think about Starbucks because of how much I adore their not too strong coffee and delicious teas. I go there on a weekly basis when I want to splurge on something sweet to drink. The drinks are made quickly and they allow drink customizations. Let’s be real McDonald doesn’t offer dairy alternatives and Dunkin only has almond milk which they always seem to run out of, unlike Starbuck’s choice of soy milk, almond milk, and coconut milk 24/7.

But, I have to admit that their holiday drinks aren’t up top pare with their normal menu. I have tried their Peppermint Mocha and their Carmel Brulee Latte and after trying those two, I was not up to giving the Toasted White Chocolate Mocha a try. The drinks just tasted very artificial and I just find them too sweet without adding enough flavor to them. When I tried both these drinks with soy milk, I was quickly unhappy with the flavor of the coffee. The Carmel Brulee Latte made me nauseous from the sweetness, despite being bitter and the Peppermint Mocha Mint tasted a little like chemicals, the cheap peppermint flavor like from a dollar tree flavoring bottle.

I simply wasn’t impressed by the recipe. That isn’t to say that the baristas aren’t amazing because they always get my order right and the rare time they mess up an order, they fix it. If you go to Starbucks I can not suggest their holiday drinks, because I personally just don’t think they taste good.
