How to plan the perfect birthday celebration for your S.O.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Guelph chapter.

1. Write down your ideas

Whether you’ve been with your S.O. for a couple of months or several years, you’ll probably have a couple of main ideas for things that you’d like to do to help make their special day wonderful. Were you thinking of planning a romantic picnic at a local park, choosing the classic dinner and a movie they’ve wanted to see for a while, or something completely different? Writing your ideas down on paper or in your phone can help you decide what exactly you’d like to do to celebrate your S.O. It can also be a great way to see if you can merge ideas to make the day extra special!

2. Consider presents

Presents are a fantastic way to show anyone, particularly your partner, that you care a lot about them. But sometimes it can be difficult to think of the right gifts to get your significant other, particularly if you haven’t known them for very long or if you feel as though you’ve already gotten them everything under the sun. These are a couple of gift ideas that might help!

  • Fragrance (perfume, cologne, etc)
  • Articles of clothing (such as sweaters or cool socks)
  • Snacks (chocolates are always a good choice, or cheese if your S.O. prefers savory treats)
  • Something to read
  • Movies
  • Gift card to their favourite store
  • Something handmade (particularly if you knit, sew, crochet or make jewellery)

3. Food is important too

Does your S.O. have a favourite meal you usually make them? Or perhaps a special coffee shop or restaurant that you usually go together? Food can often have significance and meaning, as well as remind people of important moments in their relationships. Taking your S.O. to their favourite restaurant or making them their favourite meal can be a personalized way to show them how much you care, as well as make their day extra magical and fun!

4. Make a wish!

The cake can be a wonderful way to show your S.O. how great you think they are, and it’s always fun to see your partner smile as you sing them happy birthday and blow out the candles. Don’t forget to consider what flavours they prefer, their favourite type of icing, and how many people will be with you to ensure everyone gets a piece.
