If you didn’t know its 2020! Just kidding, hopefully, you know by now. A new decade full of new memories and an unpredictable future. The 2010s was the decade that I actually started to grow up. I went from elementary school to middle school to high school and college in the 2010s. That’s crazy to me. The last decade literally prepared me so I can make some of the most important life decisions in this decade. I wanted to rewind to 10 years ago. Just for a little throwback and to set the scene here are something’s that happened in 2010:

  • Billboard’s top song of 2010 was Tik Tok by Ke$ha

  • The Oil Spill Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico

  • A magnitude 7 earthquake hit Haiti

  • Apple released the iPhone 4 and the iPad

  • Oprah was still on TV

  • Instagram was created

  • And last but not least, Lady Gaga wore a meat dress to the MTV Video Music Awards

Now, hopefully, you remember what life was like in 2010. It feels like it was so long ago and I know I had no idea what life would be like now. It made me think, what if I could go back in time to 2010? What would I say to 10 year old me?

I think I would tell myself that over the next couple of years, as you’re growing up, you are going to meet a lot of people and a lot are not going to stay in your life. But that’s okay. Because the ones who do are special and hold a place in your heart. You haven’t even met them yet. Don’t dwell on the things lost, be excited about the things that are coming.

And then I asked my friends the same question and here are some of their responses……

  • “I would tell myself to think about life’s quality over quantity” -Shannon

  • “ I would tell myself to be my own person. It’s so easy to get caught up with the and social norms, and I was definitely a little bit of a victim of that. I always tried to wear, say and do what was “cool” at the time so I could fit in, but I was playing myself even though I didn’t know it yet. I am just starting to figure out who I’m supposed to be and how I can positively contribute to society and to other people’s lives. It’s a surreal feeling when you find out how you can utilize that.” -Josh

  • “Stop worrying and just live your life. Don’t worry about what other people think of you or what other people are doing. Do what makes YOU happy.”-Mike

  • “I would tell myself to stress less and live in the moment”- Ben

  • “To not worry about the little things, because they don’t matter”-Nora

  • “I wish I wasn’t in such a hurry to grow up. I wish I just enjoyed all the family traditions because now everyone is so busy with work and school that they have sorta stopped”-Caitlin

  • “I’d tell myself it’s okay if there are people out there who don’t like you. I’m still trying to learn that to this day, but back then if someone didn’t like me it was like the end of the world.”- Hannah

  • “Be confident in who you are.”- Tallie Anne

If you could go back in time to 2010 what would say to your younger self?
