Mom,

Hi. I decided to write this letter because I feel like you deserve some recognition. As a child, and even as a teenager, it is sometimes hard to express your thoughts and give gratitude for everything that has been done for me. I have been thinking a lot lately about how much you mean to me. I’ve also been thinking about how much support you have shown me. So thank you for all that you have done.

Thank you for putting up with me when I was a snotty teenager who always thought I was right. Thank you for talking me through the nights I didn’t think I would make it through. Thank you for happy tears and belly laughs. Thank you for your unwavering love and support. Thank you for allowing me to learn from my mistakes and gain my independence. Thank you for letting me steal your clothes. Thank you for loving me in times where I felt like I was hard to love. Thank you for hugs, late-night drives and all of our inside jokes. Thank you for being a role model for me. For showing me what a compassionate, strong, hardworking woman looks like. I’m thankful for the times you have pushed me to become a better version of myself. To be honest with you mom, I could write a novel of all the things I cannot thank you enough for.

I’m sorry for all of the times we have fought and have not been able to see eye to eye. I’m sorry for those wasted moments that could’ve been amazing memories. I’m sorry for shutting you out in times I have really needed you the most because I know all you wanted to do was help.

You really have always been my number one fan. Doing absolutely everything you could do to support me and the dreams I have even at the expense of sacrificing your own needs. You never fail to brighten my day and you never fail to make me laugh on my hardest days. You have shown me the importance of family and surrounding yourself with people who actually care about you. You have held my hand when I needed you, but you have also taught me when it is time to let go. You make me want to be a better person and serve others with all of my heart. You’ve taught me the importance of friendship. How real friends should treat me. How to interact with new people when I’m anxious. Most importantly you’ve taught me how to handle things when friendships end.

Mom, without you I wouldn’t be half of the woman I am today. Your willingness to sacrifice yourself for the well-being of me is unreal. I am a strong woman because I was raised by such a strong woman. You have taught me to push for the things I believe in and have encouraged me to dream big. You are my idol. Even when we disagree, even when things seem hard. I couldn’t do life without you. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. You are my best friend and I love you so much.

Love always,

Your daughter
