A Broke College Girl’s Guide to Galentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

It’s that time of the year. February is full of cold weather, super bowl parties, and all things Valentine Day. As an avid Parks and Rec fan, and gift giving fanatic I’ve been preparing for weeks.

For those who don’t know, Galentine’s Day is a day to celebrate your besties & how amazing they are. It is on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day. It originated from season 2 episode 16 of the show Parks and Rec. The holiday is celebrated with brunch, thoughtful gifts and some QT with your besties.

Although many would love to treat their friends with gifts, the collegiate’s budget doesn’t always permit the purchase of a lavish face or a new Yankee Candle as a gift like Leslie Knope’s might.

Open When Letters

These are super cheap, but take a little bit of time. If you have the time, this can be a super cute, crafty gift for your bestie. Basically you can find tons of inspo on Pinterest. But a basic rundown of the project is you will need colored pens or markers, envelopes and notebook paper. You can do as many open when letters or as few as you want. Your first one should be an open now letter that will explain the letters

A Face Mask & Their Favorite Candy

A classic, super cheap option. If you prefer buying gifts and are not really a DIY kind of girl, this is perfect for you. You can grab your friend a facemask from your local drugstore, or the nearest Ulta. I love Tony Moly masks – they’re good for all skin types. Pair this with their favorite candy and a card.

    Memes – Hear Me Out

As the kids tell me, and by the kids – I mean my quad mate Abby – sending personalized memes is the quickest & easiest way to celebrate your Galentines. Jokes aside, sending personalized memes with your friends interests in mind require no money. You can find many with a simple google search. Super good for last minute. In honor of Season 2 of you coming out, see a Joe Goldberg meme as an example.

    Happy Galentine’s Day collegiates!
