Netflix’s 2020 Vision: New Shows to Binge

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

Netflix is really bringing their game in 2020. Just a month into 2020 and they’re better than ever with over dozens of new binge-watching shows to entertain yourself with. Series starting from lighthearted, drama, suspenseful, romantic and yet even hysterical ones. With several different types of streaming competition, Netflix has such as Disney +, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and yet not one of those competitors beat Netflix.

With all these new series that have been coming out, I know the struggle you may have when it comes to picking which series to start first – so let me help you! Here are my top 3 new Netflix series that I believe you will binge-watch all night if you can, just like me.

Cheer- “The only thing I want to talk about is ‘Cheer’ on Netflix,” said Sandra Gonzalez – ‘Cheer’ Netflix

This new Netflix Original Series is for my cheerleaders out there! “Cheer” a new Netflix docuseries is based on a small community college called “Navarro” in Texas. The head coach Monica Aldama commented to Women’s Health – Cheer Netflix “I’m just blown away at the response. I had really no idea this was going to happen.” ‘Cheer’ is a new Netflix original series you will be now obsessing over, just like everyone else. After you watch ‘Cheer’ all of your thoughts about cheer not being a real sport will now have you rethink it all. The show is not only about the team’s incredible leadership. The producers of ‘Cheer’ makes you hear each one of the cheerleader’s heartbreaking stories, being able to get to know each one of them on a personal level. Which makes you as a viewer want them to win at Daytona just as much as they do.

You- “The Perfect BF Still Has One Little Problem” said  New York Times

This Netflix original series is for all those thriller lovers. ‘You’ is a bit of a mix of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, in fact, the star of the show is Penn Badgley, Shay Mitchell, and Elizabeth Lail. Fans believe that Badgley’s character Joe is similar to his character from Gossip Girl. ‘You’ is based on the main character Joe meeting Beck in the bookstore he owns. Joe then becomes obsessed with her and stalks her till he gets to have her fall in love with him. He explains to Beck at the end of season one, that he would do the impossible for her. What would Joe do for love you may ask… let’s just say he has done some indescribable things to people who meant a lot to Beck…Trust me, you wouldn’t want to pass this one!

Alexa & Katie- “Yes, it’s OK to laugh with ‘Alexa & Katie,’ the new Netflix show about a teen with cancer.” said Los Angeles Times

To all my lighthearted show fans this is the show for you! This show is about two best friends in high school, Alexa and Katie. Alexa has cancer and Katie is the best friend who has never left her side through all the tough times Alexa has been through. Alexa and Katie’s friendship is the type of friendship every girl strives to have. It’s a loving, strong and positive friendship. This show is the perfect mood-booster!

After recommending you my personal top three favorite binge-worthy shows on Netflix, I hope you start watching and enjoying them just as much as I did. It’s time to get that popcorn and start binge-watching ladies!
