Chill/RnB Songs to Add to Your Valentine’s Day Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

Valentine’s Day is coming up and, by the time this article is up, it might even be today! Nonetheless, with romantic movies and tv shows comes music. Along with 10 Artists to Listen to, I’ve curated a list of love songs I’ve fallen in love with over the past few months that perfectly embody the customs of Valentine’s Day—whether that be love, crush, or just thriving in single-ness(?). No matter what situation you’re in, it’s nice to be able to have some music to go with it. Feel free to add these songs to your Spotify playlist!

Crush – Souly Had

I came across this song on Spotify one day and, I kid you not, cannot stop listening to it. There’s something so cliche yet intriguing about songs about crushes.

Love Songs – Kaash Paige

I honestly feel like half the music I recommend are Tik-Tok famous but, for good reason because this song is completely soothing and chill enough to groove to. I can also already picture the Tik Tok dance in my head while writing this.

Peach – Kevin Abstract

Truth be told, I’m an absolute fan of Kevin Abstract’s music. While this song is definitely more melancholic compared to the others (as Abstract reminiscences about his past love), the tune is still fairly sweet and the variety of pitches work well in creating harmony

Butterflies – ASTN

Along with Crush, this song pertains to the feeling of—well—having butterflies in your stomach while talking to your crush. Maybe I just have a thing for lo-fi pop but I can’t help but move along to this song when it comes on shuffle.

Haircut – Ryan Beatty

So this song isn’t technically rnb or even lo-fi, but it’s too good for me not to throw in here. If you’re looking for a good self-anthem, this is it: Beatty uses this song to show that he is not afraid to hide his sexuality anymore and it couldn’t be a better way to embrace your confidence on Valentine’s Day

Summer – BROCKHAMPTON

Yes, I know it’s the dead of winter and, yes, Kevin Abstract is already on this list, but it’s hard to describe rnb without mentioning Brockhampton. While most of their music is rap, this is one that stands out. Bearface’s voice completely shines in this song about summer love

Açaí Bowl – Dominik Fire

Besides having a name that’s one of my (not-so-guilty) guilty pleasures, Açaí Bowl is basically a euphemism for “Netflix and Chill”, but with a completely catchy tempo that’s sure to have you singing along.

ILYSB – LANY

If I could, I’d add every LANY song there is to this article but I’ll spare you all. This isn’t also really rnb but it’s such a feel-good song that, even when I don’t have a boyfriend, I can’t help but feel happy.

Summer – Keshi

Surprise! Ladies and gentleman, we have yet another song about summer. I’ve talked about Keshi in my last music article but I can’t emphasize enough how great his music is when you’re in a stump or just reminiscing. The beats are absolutely stuck in my head and all his songs are amazing.

These Nights – Rich Brian & Chungha

So Rich Brian is a rapper and, while it’s fairly apparent his voice is heavily autotuned in this, it somehow works. Chungha’s voice is also absolutely heavenly and I’ve repeated her part so many times at this point

Summetime In Paris – Jaden Smith

I-I’m not even going to explain why this is the third summer song. Realistically though, I love so many of Jaden Smith’s songs and didn’t even know he sang this until last month (with his sister Willow!).
