Pen? Check. Laptop? Check. Water Bottle? Check.

Wait, why does it still feel like the average college student is coming to class unprepared?

It’s probably because they’re missing the most essential ingredient to a healthy lifestyle: essential oils. Now, we’re not saying these oils will solve all of your problems. Need a date for Friday night? Can’t help you. Want to get rid of that migraine? We might have just the solution!

From sleepless nights to stressful days there are tons of reasons one might want to try out essential oils. First things first, you have to ask yourself, what do you need?

If you want to change the atmosphere around you then it’s a good idea to invest in a diffuser. This helps essential oils dissipate into the air around you using just water vapor. This way the oils work their magic, and you don’t even have to worry about it.

We recommend diffusing lavender for a restful sleep, tea tree oil for any pesky headaches and a combination of peppermint, eucalyptus and patchouli if you want to keep your roommate from snoring!

Do you simply need a quick fix? Try skin application, this method means you just put a few drops onto your hands or wrist and inhale! It sounds weird, but works wonders.

Having anxiety about an upcoming test? A drop or two of lavender will have you chilling in minutes. Feeling blue? A drop of lemongrass will have you perking up within the hour! Falling asleep in class? Put a drop of peppermint on your upper lip (yeah, you read that right) and you’ll be awake and attentive the rest of the class.

Different oils have different benefits and thus should be used in different ways. For example, lemongrass and bergamot oil are great for use in cleaning or diffusing around the dorm. They both purify the air and act as a pick-me-up as soon as you smell them!

If you’re looking for a new skin care routine, put a few drops of eucalyptus in with your face wash for a clarifying and refreshed feeling. If your a bath person, drop some patchouli oils in your water for a relaxing soak. Need a boost for that Monday morning class? Make sure to pack your rosemary oil for an energized start to your day!

Here are some oils where it doesn’t matter whether you use them around the house or on your body, they’re good for every occasion: peppermint, lavender, tea tree, frankincense and sweet orange.

Ever thought about doing yoga or meditating, but just couldn’t get into the “mood?” Don’t worry, you’re not alone, but essential oils are the key to finding your zen. Lavender and frankincense both help with achieving a chill mood for meditation. If you struggle with anxiety, lavender is the way to go. If it’s just focusing on your inner-self that seems daunting, try frankincense.

Save the tea tree for your spring cleaning or you could even make your own perfume! It’ll give you that “just stepped out of the shower” feeling when you’re way too busy in between classes.

The great thing about essential oils is that there’s no wrong way to use them, as long as you stick to smelling them.

Remember ladies, never ingest an essential oil into your body unless you know it’s safe. Stay alert, relaxed, refreshed or whatever your heart desires, and do it while smelling fantastic with the powerful benefits of essential oils!

It took me a long time to realize that my 'niche' is standing out. There were no categories created for women like me. You can try to find the mold I came from, but I doubt (even if you found it) that anyone could create another like me. So, my question for all the women out there who can't find exactly where they fit in. Why try to fit in when we were born to stand out?
