Now Playing: Best Movies of February 2020

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

February featured a great line-up of new releases–from the action-packed Harley Quinn movie, to the long-anticpated To All the Boys sequel. Here are my top picks for the best movies that came out last month that you need to binge right now.

Birds of Prey– Girl power movie of the year. Giving Harley her freedom and a girl gang all in one movie? Amazing. This movie has recieved mixed reviews (especially between male vs female viewers) but I think you need to see it yourself to decide–it just might surprise you.

Fantasy Island– I love thrillers. I especially love thrillers that have a plot-twist that I didn’t see coming, which are honestly few and far between. But Fantasy Island left me shocked more than once throughout the movie. For those of you living under a rock, Fantasy Island is a paradise where people are taken and given one wish. Everyone gets one wish, whether it is to get a redo over a past mistake, or to have everything you’ve ever wanted for a weekend. Here’s the catch–all fantasies have to be lived out till its natural end, and the ending you want isn’t always the ending you get.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire– Get your subtitles ready, because this is one movie you aren’t going to want to have missed come next award season. Set in 1770 France, Marianne, a painter, is hired to paint a wedding portrait of Héloïse in secret. She entertains her by day, and paints her by night. What could go wrong? Better question, what could go right?

To All the Boys: P.S I Still Love You– Okay, I can’t be the only one who was Team John Ambrose? I found myself rooting for him even though I read all the books years ago and knew how it ended. Let me say this–Book Peter is kind of a jerk… actually, Movie Peter is kind of a jerk, too. Lara Jean deserved better. I said what I said. But the ending scene iwith Peter in the snow? I may have rewatched one or four times.

The Invisible Man– I didn’t think I was going to like this movie. Remakes of classics, no matter how different of a route they try to go, usually end up being bad. The Invisible Man, however, is the exception to that rule. Elisabeth Moss is AMAZING (but is anyone really surprised) and I found myself thinking she was a little bit crazy during some scenes… The ending wasn’t what I was expecting AT ALL and left me wanting more.

Scotlyn is a UNT alum, Class of 2020. She graduated with a degree in Digital and Print Journalism and a minor in English. During her time with Her Campus, she served as the Chapter President for two years, and also held positions as Chapter Advisor, Writer, and Chapter Expansion Assistant through Her Campus Media. And yes, her name is like the country, but spelled differently.
