3 Changes For a Healthier Lifestyle

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

1. Cut out soda.

When I was seventeen I cut out soda from my diet completely. It was hard to stick with, but it changed so many things. I felt less bloated, wasn’t crashing all the time, and my digestive system improved. The dietary recommendation of sugar intake is about six teaspoons for women and nine teaspoons for men. In a 12-ounce can of cola there are about eleven teaspoons of sugar. If you are even having one, let alone more than one can of soda a day, you are consuming way too much sugar in your diet.

2. Throw out your scale.

Now don’t get me wrong, a healthy weight and BMI are very important, but if I have learned one thing in my early adult years, it’s that we come in all shapes and sizes. I am a very muscular female, I have been an athlete all my life, and when I would step on the scale I would feel ashamed. So, throw out the scale and instead take progress pictures. If you have a goal to live a healthier lifestyle, take progress pictures once a month of your body in the same pose, and trust me, those pictures will speak much better than that number on the scale.

3. Up your water intake.

I have a terrible digestive system, I actually see a gastroenterologist to be treated for it. But one “home remedy” that has helped me out a lot was increasing my water. Everyday, I wake up and have a glass of water. This helps to get your digestive system working before you even eat for the day. Then before every meal I drink another glass of water. Just by adding a few glasses a day, you will not only see a difference in your digestive system but also your skin! Our body is made up of a large percentage of water, so stay hydrated queens!
