Tiny Home Vacation Spot Opens in the Florida Keys

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

The Florida Keys is a location spot in south Florida where visitors can enjoy sandy beaches, beautiful clear water, and now, tiny homes.

Last month, Petite Retreats opened the first tiny house village in Ohio Key. These little homes can be found 30 minutes away from Key West, right on the shoreline of Sunshine Key RV Resort. Each comes fully equipped to allow renters to live out their tiny home dreams. A full kitchen, cookware, TV with cable, full bathrooms and adjustable air conditioning and heat are just a few of the amenities that come with an overnight stay in the home.

The village itself contains five different tiny homes that are currently available to rent out. Each home has a different personality and is catered to the renter’s tastes, that being said, it is time to meet the tiny homes:

Kai

Kai is a tiny home that sleeps up to three people. Starting at $250 a night, this home has a beach feel to it and is sure to attract any renter that loves the water. This home features a spacious kitchen with a glass garage door that opens to an ocean view. It also includes a queen bed upstairs and a pullout couch for any guests that come visit.

Lucy

Lucy is a bright yellow tiny home that can hold up to six visitors. Because of its larger size, it can run from $300 a night. This happy home has a modern white kitchen with porthole windows. There are two queens and one full bed upstairs as well as a pullout couch downstairs that allow for the six guests to sleep comfortably in this tiny home.

Isla

Similar to Lucy, Isla can hold up to six visitors and rents for the same price. However, it has a calmer, earthy aesthetic. This home is perfect for a vacationer ready to relax and unwind from their busy life.

Pearl

Pearl is another tiny home that sleeps up to three people. It runs at $250 a night and features large windows that let in the morning light. Pearl is a pink paradise with a colorful feminine aesthetic on the inside. Like Kai, it features a queen bed upstairs and a pullout sofa in the living room.

Hemmingway

Named after the famous author, Hemmingway is a cozy tiny home with a dark wood aesthetic on the inside that is catered to any aspiring writer. Sleeping up to four people, this home runs mid-range at $275 a night and features a tiny balcony. There is a queen bed accessible by a ladder as well as a full bed in the basement.

The price range of each of these homes is cheaper than most hotels in the Keys. This, along with its beachfront location, makes the village an ideal arrangement for those who want a more unique vacation experience.

The company that owns this spot, Petite Retreat, also has yurts, cabins and teepees available for rent in their many locations around the nation. For more information, or to plan your next vacation, check out their website linked above!
