The buzz surrounding Parasite is nothing new, with the film being the first non-English film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards this year, and as such I was extremely excited to get to watch this movie. After watching the cast and their interviews they have done in the states, with some English subtitles of course, I finally got to watch Parasite this past week. I know I’m late to the party, since the Academy Awards were a month ago, however this movie was worth the wait. Here is a quick summary and my brief opinion over the movie everyone is talking about this year: Parasite.

Parasite is a movie out of South Korea, written and directed by Bong Joon Ho. It follows a family living in South Korea living in the sub-basement home and working odd jobs whenever they find them in order to survive. However the son, Ki-Woo, of the family is friends with a boy who is going abroad and asks Ki-Woo to tutor his student in English in his absence. With a recommendation from his friend, Ki-Woo goes to be interviewed by the well-off family, and that is where their lives start to change.

(I would give more in the summary, however, adding anything else would definitely be a spoiler and those are the worst!)

This movie was 5/5 10/10 any measure you want to use, it gets a perfect score from me. It was by far the best movie I have seen in a couple years. It kept you guessing for what would happen next throughout the movie, with lots of twists and surprises to keep your attention occupied. Warning: It is rated R for a reason, so little eyes perhaps should avoid watching it. However, if you are an adult and looking for a movie to keep you on your toes and talking about it for the next week, Parasite is definitely the one for you!

Where to stream Parasite? Good question! The movie is set to release on Hulu in April, however if you are unable to wait that long, I personally rented it from YouTube for $6.

I hope this was helpful, even though I’m unable to give a fuller review in fears of spoiling it. The article has ideally peaked your interest enough that you can either wait until April for Hulu to have it, or you’re going to watch it right now for under $10 on YouTube. Either way, I hope you all get the chance to watch the award winning Parasite!
