My Easy and Affordable Skincare Routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

My skin isn’t perfect – no one’s is – but it’s a heck of a lot better than it used to be. Over the past couple of years, I’ve found a skincare routine that works for me and one that might work for you too! Keep in mind that my acne was never that bad. I think I went to the dermatologist once in high school and got a few tips. But for the most part, I figured out what works to keep my skin clear by trial and error.

If you’re looking for a few new products to incorporate into your daily skincare routine, keep reading!

  1. Dove Beauty Bar

First thing’s first: wash your face! I’ve been using Dove soap for years and I seriously think it has helped my skin more than anything else. It’s gentle and leaves my skin feeling so clean afterward! I make sure to wash my face once in the morning and once at night and after I work out and I exclusively use this product!

  2. Facial Oil

This is a more recent addition to my routine, but again it has made all the difference. Typically, I use vitamin E oil, but I’m currently going through a bottle of jojoba oil. Using oils instead of moisturizer has completely changed the appearance of my skin. It has helped with acne scars and makes me look so supple! I pick up my oils from TJ Maxx and they usually cost around $5.

  3. Eye Cream

It’s never too early to start taking care of wrinkles. I also get my eye cream at TJ Maxx and usually switch up the brand every time. But regardless of the brand, using eye cream twice a day has definitely helped my fine lines (yes, I have lines at 22!) start to fade.

  4. Facial Massager

I don’t do this step every day, but when I remember it makes me feel so refreshed. I use a rose quartz roller that I store in my fridge and massage my skin up to help with lymphatic drainage. It’s great for the morning to relieve puffiness from the night before!

  5. 10% Benzoyl Peroxide and Differin Gel

These are the only two acne products I put on my skin. I use just any benzoyl peroxide from the drugstore first. I apply it on my trouble areas, so mostly my chin and forehead and then rub massage it across my entire face with any excess. After, I go in and do the same thing with Differin gel. These two products together keep my breakouts at bay and don’t dry my skin out like some other more harsh acne medicines. Plus, you can get both of them without a prescription and at the drugstore!

And that’s it! It’s super simple and has made my skin almost perfect! Also, I know I need to incorporate sunscreen into my daily routine, but I haven’t found a good one yet. If you have any recommendations, let me know!
