Why Everyone Should Be Using LinkedIn Learning

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

One of my nerdy habits is that I am always onLinkedIn. Normally when I go on it I look at my feed, look at potential jobs, or update my profile. While on the website I found LinkedIn Learning, which is a website with an abundance of videos on skills which employers look for. My main dilemma with all these options was which topic to choose first.

On LinkedIn Learning, there are a plethora of topics to choose from including but not limited to Excel, Web Design, and Animation. Basically anyone can find some topic that would interest them. The basic rundown of how it works is you watch videos, take quizzes, and some of the topics have a certificate you can earn if you do well on the tests at the end. These certificates can go straight onto your LinkedIn account, under the Skills & Certificates section. This gives you the opportunity to stand out amongst other applicants by having these specific skills backed up by the LinkedIn Learning assessments. One of the most common complaints young people have about applying for jobs is when they are supposed to have years of experience in the workforce for every entry-level job they want in their field. Having these certificates helps make up for the lack of work experience in a sense, because there is proof you actually have knowledge in these topics. Now employers actually have a reason to believe that you actually have the skills you listed and they have a better idea of how much knowledge you have in that topic. Plus it is a great way to find interests you did not know you had before.

Not only are these lessons good for you to become a more well-rounded individual, LinkedIn Learning is normally $29.99 per month (plus taxes) or $299.88 per year but as a JMU student it is included in tuition. Now that’s what I call a deal!

My guilty pleasure is watching reality tv and living vicariously through them.
