These Are the Fashion Staples You Need in Your Closet ASAP

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Now that spring is fast approaching, I, and I’m assuming many other people have taken the opportunity to do a little spring cleaning. Now for some this may mean sweeping the attic and cleaning out the garage, but for me, it means donating all the clothes that are either out of style or too small and replacing them with new ones. With that being said, I have decided to compile my Ultimate Fashion List, in the hopes that I can give you guys some ideas of what you may want to add to YOUR closets:

1. A cropped black sweatshirt

While this may sound kind of plain and obvious, it really is an under-appreciated piece. They’re wearable with almost any outfit, and can sometimes make or break a whole look. Monochromatic looks with black sweatpants and a cropped zip-up is a great street-wear look too!

2. A midi skirt

Possibly the biggest upcoming trend of spring 2020, midi skirts are all the rage right now. Whether it’s plain black or patterned, you can’t go wrong with a midi skirt outfit!

3. Air Jordan 1’s

As someone who would strictly wear sneakers if they went with everything, I’ve been dying to get my hands on a pair of Air Jordan 1’s. Any color combo would make me the happiest girl alive!

4. Champion Tracksuit

Champion quickly became my favorite brand for lounge-wear because I’ve never owned a pair of sweatpants that are so soft or wash so well. Luckily for me, they’re also on-trend; but in all seriousness, I’ve never owned lounge-wear with better quality and would love a whole matching set.

5. Anything from Free People

Despite the other items on my list, I actually have a very boho style. Every time I walk into Free People I swear I would buy literally every item on every hanger… if only their clothes weren’t so expensive. Their perfect mesh of boho and edgy vibes are exactly what I need in my closet!

6. Cargo Pants

For someone who is a tad bottom-heavy, cargo pants would do a perfect job of making my body look a little bit more proportional. I’m also not a huge fan of skinny jeans, so they would be a perfect pant that is both comfortable and versatile. I tend to switch up my style a lot, so cargo pants would work with something boho, edgy, or just plain casual.

7. A Plaid Trench Coat

While plain trench coats are a cute way to keep you warm, I prefer mine with some type of pattern or bright color to dress up my outfits a little bit. There was one coat I saw from Target’s Wild Fable line that I absolutely fell in love with! A beige, red, black, and yellow plaid with large round buttons.

8. Bell-Bottom Jeans

Continuing with the 70’s vibe that I’ve been talking about thus far, I would love a pair of black bell-bottom jeans. They’re easy to style and instantly elevate an outfit from basic to thought-out.

9. A Midi Dress

Similar to my reasoning for the midi skirt, midi dresses (especially silky floral ones) are delicate, lightweight, and simply my favorite look for summer.

10. Mesh Tops with Pearl Detailing

For me, this season has been all about the pearls. I find them delicate, girly, and something that turns a plain top into a super eye-catching statement piece. I’ve been dying to get my hands on a long black mesh t-shirt with high side slits and pearls embroidered all over.

Hi everyone! My name is Marisa Fertitta and I’m a freshman at Lasell University. I’m a fashion media major, but I also love to sing and play volleyball! Just a fun fact, my favorite color is pink. :)
