Intro to Women and Gender Studies
Women and Gender Studies is notorious for being both a class that sparks thought-provoking discussion, but it also can help you feel more empowered as a woman and even knock out core requirements. WGS provides an interesting perspective on the history of culture and the woman’s role in history and demonstrates how it has evolved (or hasn’t evolved) over time. It’ll definitely make you evaluate the world differently, no just in college but also in the real world!

Any art or art history class
From painting to sculpture to drawing to renaissance art history, the options are endless in the art department. Don’t think you have an artistic muscle in your body? Who cares, you only go to college once and all this equipment (or most of it at least) is free at your disposal. Make use of the studio space, free digital cameras, tools, and materials while you still can! Who knows, you might acquire a newfound appreciation for modern art or even a new hobby!

Intro to U.S. Politics or Intro to International Politics
Whether or not you’re a government and law or international affairs major, it is an incredibly useful tool to be up-to-date with today’s politics and aware of political history in the U.S. as well as abroad. It is incredibly useful to understand how the government and legal systems work, even if you don’t wish to pursue a political career, it will keep you properly informed when it comes to important times such as elections. Politics affect all of our day-to-day lives, even if we don’t notice it, there are constantly new legislative and proposals that can alter healthcare, elections, etc. and ultimately our future wellbeing.

Intro to Psychology
Not only is psychology extremely useful in the real world no matter your profession, but it also makes memorizing terms so much more enjoyable. Because you can relate psychology to nearly any scenario in everyday life, you’ll find yourself being able to easily relate it to problems you may face or just be able to think of a personal example for that psychology exam you have. Pro tip: try to take this class with Professor Shaw if you can!
Whether it be in the humanities or STEM field, I highly encourage you to make the most of your private college tuition and explore what liberal arts classes have to offer. There is so much at your fingertips in college that you won’t be able to take advantage of when you’re out in the real world, so you might as well try to graduate with no regrets. You never know, you might even pick up a new major while you’re dabbling outside of your comfort zone.
