What made you decide on an English major? I’ve loved writing for as long as I can remember. It’s always been my dream to be an author and write books, so majoring in english was an easy choice.
What made you decide on a theatre minor? I did theatre throughout high school and loved every second of it. Although I’m not looking for a career in theatre, I couldn’t imagine my life without it. A theatre minor was a good in between to keep doing what I love.
What has doing theatre taught you about life? What theatre has taught me the most is that even if the scene or show I’m acting in is completely far fetched and unrealistic, the emotions represented are universal. The connections we make through theatre both as an actor or as an audience member really show us what is important and why we make art.
How have you been surviving social distancing? It’s been rough. I’ve been doing a lot of crafts and artsy things to keep my mind off of it. Right now I’m making a pom-pom rug! I also have been facetiming with my friends a lot and just trying to make the best of a bad situation.
What has been your favorite class at MSU so far? My favorite class so far has been my advanced poetry class that I’m currently in. I love writing poetry and this class challenged me to expand my skills and think about writing in new ways. Plus, it’s always cool to have a class filled with people who are passionate about the same things.
What advice would you give to any freshman joining MSU next semester? My advice is to go to things that are happening on campus. There are so many events and you never know what you’ll get out of them or who you’ll meet.
