I have always been a dreamer. I come up with crazy ideas and try to make them work. Sometimes they fail and sometimes they succeed, but nothing has ever stopped me from chasing those dreams and coming up with more crazy ideas. Some of those ideas might sound crazy to you, but I see them as goals. Here are five crazy, personal goals that I have for myself.
- Having My Name on a Business Card

To some people this might sound stupid, but for me it is a dream. In my 25 years of living I have never held a permanent job anywhere. I’ve held entry level jobs and have freelanced, using some of my photography and writing skills, but I have never held a permanent position for a long period of time. So, one of my goals is to have my name on a business card. I see it as a symbol of belonging and status. For these reasons it is something I have always and will always strive for.

Being a dreamer and coming up with outrageous ideas has always been a part of my character. It is my hope that one day one of my ideas will blossom into a business. I love to cook, and even more, I love seeing the looks on people’s faces when they eat my food. I would like to own a catering business or invest in a restaurant one day. I read a quote on the wall of a Village Inn in my teens that said, “Never trust a skinny chef.” I found that rather comical because it meant that they had never tasted their own food. I’ve taken that quote to heart and I since then, have never served anything to anyone that I had not already tried myself. It’s this work ethic and passion for good business that I think would take me far in establishing my own business one day, even if it is not a food establishment.

When I was in elementary school, I created a comic book called Mushroom Man and Pencil Boy. I showed it to my teacher, and she laminated it and put a spiral through its binding. That was the moment that my passion for writing sprouted. I have never been the best at reading or math, but I could write like nobody’s business. I’ve had some of my papers used as examples in professors’ classes, two of my articles that I wrote for a community college news writing class were published in Glendale Community College’s The Voice newspaper, and a veteran’s story that I wrote for The Veteran’s Heritage Project Maricopa Community College edition book is now sitting in the Library of Congress, my biography and picture shining in the back of the book. And the most obvious of them all, this article, among others, that I’ve written for Her Campus shows my online presence as a writer. Even though all of these are published works, I have a desire to write my own book, a fiction novel to be exact. I would like to write at least one book in my lifetime and have it published.

In the time that I’ve been living independently, I have only lived in apartments. Although I am grateful to have a place to live, I’ve always dreamt of owning my own house. I’m the worst at interior design but I would like to have a living space that has my own personal touch all over it. I like to think of my taste as modern. I like open spaces, as many windows as possible for natural light to come in, an open floor plan so that it feels like the whole house is really one big room, a few extra bedrooms for friends and family to stay if they come to visit, a great kitchen to cook and entertain in, and my very own office space. Owning a house is one of my bucket lists items that I’d love to turn into a reality one day.
- Travel the World

I have always wanted to travel and experience other cultures. I would like to stand on the top of the Eiffel Tower, try authentic Italian food from Italy, attend fashion week in London, tour Australia and visit their beautiful oceans, and last but not least, go to Las Vegas and New York and view the city lights at night. However, because we are currently living through a pandemic, these goals may need to be delayed.
As extravagant and grandiose as these goals may be, I want to graduate from college and establish myself in society before I get that business card I’ve always dreamed of. Even though I am a Public Relations major, I plan to write in my free time and maybe get a headstart on that book I want published. I wish to one day own my own business and home, maybe at the same time. And last but not least, I want to see what the world has to offer, broaden my horizons, gain some knowledge, and most of all, try all of the food. These are just some of my personal goals I’ve recorded in writing in the hope that one day they’ll become a reality.
