Due to the coronavirus, most of us have been home lately in order to prevent the spread. For a lot of us, we have been on what we basically see as house arrest; we only go out for essential necessities. It kind of sucks but it is for our safety. We have been trying to do whatever it is in order to keep us occupied such as dyeing our hair, napping, or just watching Netflix. Now all those may be fun, but we all do get hungry and want something to do in our months. I have listed some of my favorite at-home drinks/snacks which I loved making during the quarantine.

1. LAUSD Coffee Cake

So just recently, the LAUSD coffee cake recipe was released. I was so excited to make it. I hadn’t had that coffee cake since I was in 7th grade. I even remember how big my love was for it back then because my friend Sammy and I even ran across the field just to get a slice when we heard it was being served during nutrition. The day after the recipe was released, my parents were making a trip to the grocery store for food and so I asked them to bring me a couple of ingredients so I could make the coffee cake. They came back and I instantly got to work. By the time I had pulled it out of the oven, everyone in my family was waiting for a slice. As it had been baking, the smell of the coffee started coming out of the cake making us begin to crave it. Taking the first bite of it was beyond delicious, and I instantly remembered the memory with Sammy.

2. Slutty Brownie

This is by far one of the most delicious desserts I have ever tried or even made. Most people tend to not know what it is; it is a brownie made up of three layers: cookie dough, Oreos, and brownie. It is very sweet, but too many tend to be delicious due to the sweetness. Making this during quarantine was great because I was able to eat it with milk and while watching Netflix. It was very relaxing and delicious.

3. Whipped Coffee

This coffee has gone viral since quarantine began. At first, I wasn’t too sure if I should make it myself until I saw a video of someone actually tasting it. In every other video, it only showed how people were making it rather than whether it was good or bad. I went to the kitchen and mixed in the three ingredients: instant coffee, sugar, and hot water. I began mixing my ingredients, but I got tired after about five minutes so instead, I used a hand mixer. Once my mixing was done, I filled up a cup with ice and milk and then added the coffee froth. I mixed it together and got a metal straw so that I could taste it. It was actually really good. To me, it was the perfect combination of coffee and milk and kind of reminded me of a Starbucks drink. Definitely a must-try.!

4. Oreo Coffee

Back when I was in high school, I used to work at Chick-fil-A. It was a pretty cool job and a lot of the time we ended up making our own drinks. One of the all-time favorites was the blended oreo coffee. In order to make the drink at home, you needed mocha coffee, vanilla ice cream, and oreo crumbs. You then put it all in the blend and mix it. Depending on how sweet you want it to be is how much oreo crumbs you add, but do note that the oreo crumbs are the best part. Put it in a cup and take a sip, it tastes delicious. Although it tastes amazing at home, I would recommend trying it at Chick-fil-A because, in my opinion, it tastes even better there.

So those are some must-try items during this quarantine since we’re always munching on something and why not just try something new for the fun of it.
