With summer fast approaching, there will be far more opportunities for both day and night activities… and sometimes changing your entire outfit may be too much work. For this reason, I present to you the easiest ways to switch up a daytime look to a nighttime look in under five minutes.
1. Leather
This is the easiest and perhaps my most favorite way to nigh-up your outfit; just add leather! Cooler nights will undoubtedly require heavier layers, and leather being a dark and edgy material can turn any day look to a night look in seconds.
2. Darker colors
Because the sun during the day time typically warrants warmer colors, colors like blue, black, darker greens, or purple give off a more night scene vibe. Silver or other metallics/sparkles/sequins tend to give the same effect. An easy way to think about this is what you consider to be sun colors vs. moon colors.
3. Makeup
For those of you who like to wear makeup, this can transform a look too. Day makeup tends to be lighter colors as well as more natural looks so switching to a bolder lip color (for example, switching from a more natural peach or pink to a red or darker nude) or doing a smokey eye can help with this too.
4. Shoes
Shoes can play a big part in this as day time looks tend to be more casual and therefore call for more casual shoe choices like sneakers or boots. While both of those can occasionally work with a nighttime look, for example, black over the knee boots or the occasional air force 1 sneaker look, easy choices to change into would be any kind of pump or heel, or even sandals do this job well. Basically anything dressier than what was worn during the day can work.
5. Fit/Fabric
Nighttime looks tend to be less casual than daytime looks, meaning that the way your clothes fit and the fabrics used to make them can be a deal-breaker. For example, a band t-shirt and cut-off shorts may work during the day, but if you’re hitting the club later that night, a sleeker way to go maybe a tight-fitting dress; or, if you don’t want to go all out, replacing that t-shirt with a tighter-fitting bodysuit can do the trick as well. There are also certain fabrics that are destined to be worn at night, for example, satin, velvet, mesh, or lace over cotton or polyester.
