Raise one hand if you’re feeling stuck or frustrated.
Raise the other if the sight of your bedroom no longer gives you the joy it once used to.
If both your hands are high in the air, keep them there for a few moments, and stretch out your arms for
a bit. Okay, you can put them down now. (If that was the first time you stretched today, you’re welcome.)
If you raised your hands in response to both my questions, chances are, you may need a change of
scenery. Now that a lot of our favorite cafes, libraries and stores are no longer open, that much-needed
change may be hard to come by- but this doesn’t have to mean more weeks in the same tired and frustrating
spaces. I recently redecorated some spaces in my home and for the first time in a while I feel really happy when
I’m in them. As a result, I’ve noticed I’m more motivated to work on any tasks I have set out in front of
me. Living in shared spaces or working with a tight budget are just two (of several) reasons why
completely remodeling your entire living space just isn’t feasible, but that doesn’t have to stop you from
revamping your space. Here are some ways I did just that:
- Cushions
-
I got a pack of 4 cushion inserts, then mixed and matched various different (but similar-looking) cushion
covers from a few different stores. Walmart and Ikea are good places to start.
- Throw Blankets
-
These are an easy way to add color and comfort to any living space.
- Move furniture around
-
Even if you don’t want to buy anything new, you can still make your space look different by trying
different furniture placements- this is an easy way to make you feel like you’re in an entirely new space.
- Plants
-
Add some life to your living space by buying a plant. Home Depot and Ikea are just 2 places you can get
plants from (both real and fake). Facebook Marketplace is also a great place to find literally anything you
could ever want.
- New bedding
-
This is a cheaper and more practical alternative to getting completely new furniture. Your bed probably
takes up the most space in your room, so they way it looks is going to have a huge impact on your room
as a whole
- Paintings
-
A fun way to add these to your space is to make them yourself! Dollarama sells painting supplies; you
could even plan a virtual paint-night with your friends and use that time to make your very own
masterpieces.
- Light fixtures
-
Fairy lights are a classic for a reason, but if you feel like you have outgrown them there is a whole world
of bonsai tree lamps and vintage lanterns ready for you to explore.
