The Products That Have Saved Me During Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Furman chapter.

I’m sure we’ve all experienced the woes of having to stay home and cancel our much-needed appointments. My eyebrows have grown eyebrows, and my mustache is more prominent than a prepubescent boy’s. Right before quarantine, I went from blonde to dark brown, and my hair continued to get lighter and lighter as the months passed. I watched my unkempt appearance continue to worsen, and I took matters into my own hands. Here are some products that helped me:

1. Freck Beauty’s “The Haul”

Freck Beauty, with its witty product names, is a cruelty-free cosmetic company created by women for everyone to enjoy. Their prices run typical to other brands, so the $92 price tag might throw you for a loop if you’re shopping for “The Haul,” but it’s totally worth it. The “Foreclay” mask is a clay mask that is made to cleanse, calm irritation, and fights inflammation, and is a gamechanger. Also in the lineup are “Rich B*tch” and “So Jelly,” a moisturizer and eye cream. Both are super creamy and light, and I love mixing “Rich B*tch” with my foundation to give me a dewy glow. But, my favorite product in “The Haul” is “Cactus Water,” the toner of the set. I’ve bought this twice already and it makes my skin feel super clean and restored. With this set, I can say that I’ll probably never stray away from using these products, as they’ve made my skin look the best it ever has (and no mascne!).

2. oVertone Haircare

Guys, this stuff is seriously the best for at-home hair dyeing. oVertone is dedicated to providing vibrant hair colors that nourish your hair instead of damaging it. Instead of being a traditional dye, their products are conditioners that dye your hair. oVertone products are typically a daily conditioner or a hair mask, so you can maintain your hair color at your own pace. The daily conditioner is meant to be used daily in place of your normal conditioner, and you only need to keep it in your hair for a few minutes. The hair mask is meant to be used as-needed, either when your ends are feeling dry or your color is waning. oVertone offers vibrant colors from rose gold to yellow, and also offers options for brown or black dyes. If you need one, they also sell toning conditioners that can neutralize certain undertones in your hair. I created my own remedy, and mix the Chocolate Brown Coloring Conditioner and the Espresso Brown Daily Conditioner, and apply this weekly. My hair is always a rich and dark brunette color, and is super soft!

3. Flamingo

After using various face razors to keep my eyebrows in order, I discovered that this approach doesn’t last long enough for the results I want. So, I turned to at-home waxing. Flamingo is entirely devoted to the removal of body hair that is easy and doesn’t result in horrific razor burn. After interviewing women for years to determine what the best hair removal practices are, they designed products that work best for most people. I use their Face Wax Kit, which contains twenty of the best wax strips I’ve ever used (sit down, Sally Hansen). It also comes with six post-wax cloths, which remove any excess wax, and a calming serum, all for the price of $10. You seriously could not ask for a better deal for an effortless and (mostly) painless at-home wax.

I hope that these tried and true products work for you, and help keep you at home where you should be.
