One of my favorite movies to watch in the fall is The Nightmare Before Christmas. This by far is my favorite movie by Tim Burton. I look forward to watching this movie every year during the Halloween season. The music is spectacular, the storyline is good, and the animation is very creative.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is about a town called Halloweentown and of course Halloween is their biggest holiday. The town is filled with witches, clowns, ghouls, werewolves, and skellingtons. Jack Skellington is the pumpkin king and the leader of Halloweentown. Every year him and the mayor put on a Halloween fest for all. However, Jack feels as it is very repetitive every year, he starts reminiscing about Halloween and what he should do.

As he is getting things off his mind he ends up in the woods with many doors, all with various holiday symbols on them. He is fascinated by the Christmas tree on one and ends up falling into Christmastown. As he sings his song “What’s this”, he notices the differences between Halloweentown and Christmastown. When he returns he tells the town about his trip to Christmastown. Nevertheless, the town does not seem to understand what Christmas is.

Jack decides to host Christmas, and gets the town into the holiday season. They start making the toys, the reindeer, and getting into the christmas spirit. They all have high hopes for this and think it will be great except the rag doll Sally. Sally tries to explain to Jack how bad of a feeling she has about Jack putting together Christmas in Halloweentown. She picked up a flower and it turned into a pretty christmas tree and then she saw fire and danger. Deep down Sally did not have a good feeling about it. Jack chooses not to listen to her and goes on with his plan.

Before I get into any spoilers, I just want to say I highly recommend this movie. The storyline is well thought out because it has a great transition of Halloween and Christmas. I love that this movie questions people like “Is it a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie?” What I love the most about this movie is the soundtrack. Music writer Danny Elfman has made most of the music for the movie. The songs can get stuck in your head easily but are fun to sing along to. The animation I am sure took a lot of time. Most of Tim Burton’s movies are very time consuming, because it is very sculptural based. Tim Burton is not afraid to go outside the box and to go to an extreme with his movies. Every year especially around halloween I look forward to watching this movie. If you are into halloween, skeletons, singing, and Tim Burton I’d say watch this movie.

I am an artist who uses art to express myself. My life quote is “stay positive”. My goal is to make a positive influence in people’s lives.
