7 Albums You Need to Add to Your Fall Playlists

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

I have always correlated music to seasons. For example, some songs sound like summer, filled with upbeat instrumentals and bright tones while others are desolate and emotional like winter, or airy and fresh like spring. My favorite season to sort songs into is the fall category. The best songs, in my opinion, are those that are cozy, warm, and feel like dancing in the street on top of crunchy leaves. Here is a list of perfect “fall time” albums to add to your fall-themed playlists.

Folklore by Taylor Swift (2020)

This album is only two months old, yet has amazing songs to get you in the fall time spirit. The lyricism in Folklore is some of Swift’s best, and listening to the songs feel like listening to bedtime stories. Even though this album came out in the summer, I believe it’s full potential will be revealed in the months of September, October, and November.

My favorite songs are “seven,” “august,” “this is me trying” and “betty.”

Atlanta Millionaires Club by Faye Webster (2019)

I recently discovered Faye Webster through social media, and I am so happy I did. Her music is calming, and is great to put on in the background while doing school work. Her album Atlanta Millionaires Club is folk-inspired, and is the perfect soundtrack for fall, while the leaves change from green to orange.

My favorite songs are “Johnny” and “Kingston.”

MAGDELENE by FKA twigs (2019)

This album is a masterpiece. FKA twigs has a beautiful, chilling voice that captivates all listeners. This album has many songs that feel haunting and if you’re anything like me, you associate fall with scary movies, halloween, and other things that feel “haunted.” FKA twigs’ also has a high-pitched voice which encapsulates the feeling of the temperature getting colder, and the cool crisp air we feel on those fall nights.

My favorite songs are “home with you,” “mary magdalene,” and “cellophane.”

Birthplace by Novo Amor (2018)

Novo Amor is a Welsh singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist. I discovered his music through a random Spotify playlist and think he is criminally underrated. His music is beautiful, soothing, and his voice is unique. His album Birthplace, is dreamy yet tranquil, the songs are effortlessly emotional, and are perfect for a long drive through fall foliage.

My favorite songs are “State Lines” and “Birthplace.”

Writing of Blues and Yellows by Billie Marten (2016)

This album is one of my go-tos for the season of fall. Every song sounds stripped back and acoustic; it feels like Marten is singing to you from the comfort of your room. Her voice is soft and gloomy which is perfect for those grey and rainy days that fall brings.

My favorite songs are “La Lune” and “Lionhearted.”

Hozier by Hozier (2014)

I had a hard time picking which Hozier album should be included on this list as I think his whole discography is meant for the season of fall. His self-titled album is a staple for me when the season changes from summer to fall. The musical aesthetics of this album feel like a sunny yet brisk fall day and Hozier’s voice is deep, dark, and atmospheric. His music was made for fall.

My favorite songs are “Cherry Wine,” “From Eden,” and “Work Song.”

Red by Taylor Swift (2012)

It wouldn’t be an article about fall albums without including what in my opinion is the pinnacle of fall time music. Red is one of my favorite albums of all time. From the albums photos, to the cover, songs, and everything in between this album is “fall” in music form. This album feels like your favorite sweater that you put on when the cold weather finally comes around.

My favorite songs are “Treacherous,” “Holy Ground,” “All Too Well,” and “I Almost Do.”

There are many other songs and albums that fit into the “fall” category that I have created in my brain, but these are a few of my favorites. Fall is the best season, and having an excellent soundtrack to go along with it makes it even better.
