In the 1950s the legend of The Green Man began. Pittsburgh residents in the South Park area routinely spotted a strange figure walking down Route 351 after dark. The figure seemed to be a man with no face and believed to have a green glow to him. Locals were very frightened of the man’s appearance and the fact he was only seen at night. The Green Man is one of the few legends in our state to ever be proven to be true. This man’s name was Ray Robinson who in no way emitted a green glow.  Ray lost most of his facial features as a child due to being severely electrocuted. He only came out at night to try to prevent being bullied. Ray was said to be an extremely kind outspoken man. However, this did not prevent the cruelty the locals placed on him.
