As of September 22nd, we officially moved into Fall 2020. Although the weather has been hot and cold, I’ve already created a fall playlist to prepare for the chilly days ahead. Listening to good music is a great way to lift your mood if you’re stuck inside for online classes or have a long night of studying ahead.

“The Lakes” by Taylor Swift

“Those Windermere peaks look like the perfect place to cry. I’m setting off, but not without my muse”

Although I really recommend the entire Folklore album by Taylor Swift, this bonus track has become my new favorite and really gives off fall vibes.

“Crystal” by Stevie Nicks

“Drove me through the mountains, through the crystal like a clear water fountain”

Stevie Nicks is one of my favorite artists and this song does not disappoint. Her use of nature imagery reminds me of fall foliage and this song is also part of the movie Practical Magic’s soundtrack, which is a great Halloween/witch-themed movie.

“Where You Lead I Will Follow” by Carol King

“If you’re out on the road feeling lonely and so cold, all you have to do is call my name”

The theme song to Gilmore Girls is the most nostalgic fall song for me. Whether you watch Gilmore Girls or not, this is a must-have for your fall playlist.

“Into the Mystic” by Van Morrison

“Smell the sea and feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic”

Similar to the Stevie Nicks song, this has a lot of nature imagery that’s perfect for a walk taking in the colors of fall.

“Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles

“Just stop your cryin’ it’s a sign of the times”

Harry Styles’ first solo song post-1D is probably my all time favorite of his. This song has a mellowness to it that is perfect for a brisk fall morning.

“In My Life” by The Beatles

“All these places had their moments with lovers and friends, I still can recall”

Although these lyrics don’t have much of a connection to fall at all, I think this season has a really nostalgic feeling to it that “In My Life” perfectly conveys.

“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terell

“’Cause baby there ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough, ain’t no river wide enough”

Another pick based on a great fall-esque movie! “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” is an amazing song on its own, but if you’ve seen the movie Stepmom it takes on a whole new association with fall.

I’ll be listening to these whenever I’m studying, cooking, doing laundry, or just out for a walk. Hopefully, these songs bring about feelings of fall for you just as they do for me.

As a busy college student who may not always have time for a million fall activities, music is a great way to capture the season!
