My Favorite Apartment Friendly Workouts on YouTube

It’s hard to stay active during a pandemic. While many gyms have reopened, not everyone is comfortable going there yet, myself included. Following YouTube workouts has been a lifesaver! However, the start of a new semester means that many of us have moved into apartments or residence halls that have downstairs neighbors. It’s definitely difficult to do explosive burpees without making some noise. Here are some of my favorite no noise, no jumping, apartment friendly workouts to keep myself active and my downstairs neighbors happy!

For some cardio: Pamela Reif’s “10 MIN CARDIO/No Jumping- silent & neighbor friendly ”

This quick no-equipment workout will definitely get your heart pumping and your muscles burning! Pamela Reif is famous for having no breaks in between movements, so get ready to sweat and feel accomplished afterwards. She gets creative by incorporating no-jumping exercises like “silent burpees” and “walking mountain climbers.” If you don’t feel like going for a run, this is a quick and effective way to get your cardio in.

If you have a set of dumbbells: MadFit’s “20 min FULL BODY BURN Workout at Home”

Maddie Lymburner actually has a whole playlist of apartment friendly workouts on her MadFit channel. There are a lot of options depending on which muscle group you want to train. I like this one because it isn’t super long, but it still targets your whole body with a circuit of 5 exercises that repeats 3 times. Maddie uses a set of 10lb dumbbells, but encourages you to use whatever suits your fitness level at the moment. This is a great full body burn for those of us just getting comfortable with weights!

For some HIIT: Caroline Girvan’s “30 Min FULL BODY HIIT WORKOUT”

I actually just stumbled upon Caroline Girvan’s channel recently, and she is amazing! She really emphasizes that exercise should be for feeling healthy and strong, rather than for struggling to achieve someone else’s physique. This video is tabata style, meaning there are 20 seconds of intense exercise followed by a 10 second rest. There’s also no equipment needed, so you can do it easily in your apartment!

For some yoga: Yoga With Adriene’s “Total Body Yoga- Deep Core”

While this isn’t explicitly deemed “no jumping” or “apartment friendly,” most of the videos on Adriene Mishler’s channel are free from jumps and won’t disturb your downstairs neighbors. This 20 minute yoga practice is core focused, so there are a lot of slow movements that encourage strength and stability in your abdominals. It is very slow, but don’t be fooled, you’ll feel it. After completing this workout, I felt great mentally as well as physically!

If you like to dance: MadFit’s “TAYLOR SWIFT- FOLKLORE 15 MIN DANCE WORKOUT”

I already included a MadFit video, but she has so many great videos on her apartment friendly playlist that I had to throw in one more. Some days I’m just not in the mood to feel an intense burn, which is totally okay! However, being active usually puts me in a good mood for the day. This is a great video to get moving a little bit and it’s all songs from Taylor Swift’s Folklore. There are some traditional ballet movements like a plié, but it’s very easy to follow along, even as a non-dancer. The songs on Folklore work well with modern dance and ballet, so it isn’t a high speed, sweaty, workout. I love doing this on days when I want to take it slow.

Those are just a few of my favorites! These workouts make me feel great mentally, which is just as important as the physical benefits. Especially during a stressful time like a  pandemic, it’s nice to have a routine and to find the things that clear your head. Hopefully these videos make you feel great, too!
