Birthdays, holidays, and vacation have all been significantly affected this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Halloween is no exception. Trick-or-treating, a time-old tradition, will be affected as many do not want to risk being in contact with strangers. Some have opted to leave candy outside their doors, while trick-or-treaters are urged to wear masks and practice social distancing if they do go out. Parties are greatly discouraged since that will mean large gatherings of people and I’m sure a mask is not a part of their intended costume. Other annual Halloween events have been cancelled as well such as Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom. You and your SO may not be able to go out and win best costume, but there are still plenty of things the two of you can do this year in order to get into the Halloween spirit and make it memorable.

Here are 7 things you can do with your Boo this Halloween:

  1. Make Jack-O-Lanterns

Making Jack-o-lanterns is a Halloween tradition that has been around forever. It’s a fun and slightly messy activity to do for people of all ages. What’s more romantic than scooping out pumpkin seeds with your SO? Together, you can cut out or a draw a design on your pumpkin or you can turn the event into a friendly competition and see whose pumpkin is the most impressive. Either way, you and your partner can get into the spirit while also creating a neat Halloween decoration. Plus, if you save the pumpkin seeds that you scrape out, you can roast them for a quick and tasty snack!

  1. Go to a drive-thru haunted house

Haunted houses have not been cancelled completely this Halloween. The creative makers of haunted houses have come up with a new way to enjoy the thrill of getting scared all from the safety of your car. Horrorland Miami brings you it’s first ever drive-thru haunted house. It’s simple: buy your tickets online, show up with your boo, roll down the windows, and drive through the haunted house course ready to be scared at every turn. The drive will take about 30 min as you go through different themed areas such as The Carnival, The Cemetery, Hospital of Horrors, Apolcalytic Zone, The Dark Farm, Alice in Horrorland, and a Christmas Nightmare. Be sure to read all of the rules before arriving there in order to ensure a safe and spooky night.

  1. Watch scary movies at home

Watching movies at home may be a casual pastime all year round, but now that it is spooky season, it’s time to get into the spirit by watching scary movies all night long. Some appropriate chilling classics to whip out are The Conjuring, IT, Get Out, Carrie, and Halloween. If horror movies and thrillers are not really your thing, then don’t worry! There are plenty of other milder Halloween movies to watch such as Hocus Pocus, Ghost Busters, The Addams Family, and Casper. Whichever movie you decide to watch, you and your boo will enjoy getting into the Halloween spirit all from the comfort of your home.

  1. Ghost photoshoot

A new trend has spread thanks to the power of TikTok: Ghost photoshoots. All you need is a white sheet, sunglasses, and a camera. Grab your boo and head outside to take some cute photos together as ghosts. The classic sheet-over-the-head ghost costume is nothing new, however, TikTok has brought it back into the limelight. Now, instead of cutting holes into the sheets for eyes, people simply put the sunglasses on to indicate where their eyes are. Not only are the ghosts looking more stylish, but you can also avoid having to cut a perfectly good bed sheet. Be sure to share these photos with #GhostPhotoshoot. These photos will capture some of that Halloween magic and give you something memorable to look back on Halloweens to come.

  1. Make Halloween treats

All holidays are a great time to let yourself go and eat as many treats as you want, but no holiday does it like Halloween. Not only because of the over-flow of candy that is guranteed, but also because of all the kinds of Halloween-inspired treats you can make at home. You can find many easy recipes online and all the treats have cute Halloween themed names such as: Graveyard Cake, Pumpkin-Patch Brownies, Mummy Hot Dogs, and “Poison” Candy Apples. All it takes is a quick trip to the grocery store and you and your boo can spend the day cooking up these delicious treats. While eating candy is a nice treat as well, making and eating your own creations with your SO is so much more rewarding and is an overall a fun activity.

  1. Make some Halloween inspired drinks

Just because we can’t go out and party this Halloween, doesn’t mean you can’t bring the party to you. For a more adult activity, making Halloween inspired cocktails is the perfect activity for you and your boo to try your hands at mixing. These cocktails are also perfectly named and easy to make such as: The Witch’s Heart, Purple Potion Punch, and Haunted Graveyard. For those who aren’t big on alcohol, there is still other spooky drinks you can make such as: Dragon Punch, Ghost Milkshakes, and Vampire’s Kiss Mocktail. These drinks deliver maximum Halloween spirit when combined with Halloween treats, so enjoy spending time in the kitchen with your boo this Halloween.

  1. Visit Miami’s oldest costume shop.

If there is something special about Halloween traditions, it’s the costumes that people wear each year. Every year people plan out their costumes early on in October waiting to show them off on Halloween. What better way to honor this tradition than to visit the oldest costume shop in Miami, La Casa de Los Trucos or in English, The House of Tricks. This shop was founded in Cuba in the 1920s and now stands in Little Havana offering its clients over 15,000 different costumes. This store is truly a site to behold and is the perfect Halloween-date location where you can both browse this eccentric store and all it has to offer.
