I will go right out and say it — I have never had a boyfriend before. I just felt like I never had the time, patience, or most importantly, the right person to date. For a while, this was something that I was a little embarrassed about because a lot of my friends have/had boyfriends, but I just have not found “the one” yet. After thinking about this, I realized that a lot of what was holding me back was 100% myself. When people tell you that you cannot love others until you love yourself, they are 100% correct.

I know you hear this exact saying from your professors, news broadcasters, and your parents, but these are “unprecedented times.” Even though I hear that phrase ~constantly~, it is true, especially if you are on the mission to get a significant other this #cuffingseason. For some people, finding a S.O. (significant other) right now is easier, but for others, it is extremely difficult. My advice for the people who find it to be easier is: GO FOR IT! What is the worst that could happen? My advice for the others who are having difficulty is to take this time to focus on yourself.

During the first couple months of the pandemic, I was able to take a lot of time to reflect and teach myself self-love, gratitude, and motivation. Daily affirmations are something that helped me a lot. This could include waking up and being thankful for another day to live in this incredible world or texting my family and friends and expressing my thankfulness to them or even taking 5 or 10 minutes to meditate. I have found that this has helped me love myself a lot more and allowed me to learn more about myself as well!

Even though it feels like we have far less time now to do self-reflection, the reality is that you still have time for this. Taking care of yourself and loving yourself always comes first, so before you get #cuffed make sure to schedule in some self-love. HCXO!
