It’s fair to say that Halloween 2020 might look a little different from usual. Maybe you aren’t too bothered, or maybe you’re devastated that the regular events won’t be taking place. Either way, here are some ideas to create a fun-filled Halloween. It may not be apple bobbing (plans need to be COVID-19 safe after all), but there is still lots to do!

#1: Cooking and baking

I don’t know about you, but I find there’s nothing more fun than bringing out my inner Nigella Lawson in the kitchen. And with these recipes, it doesn’t matter how experienced you are! To start with, some pumpkin soup! Carved your pumpkin and unsure of what to do with the innards? Don’t throw it away, make use of it with this delicious hearty soup! What could be more perfect for a cosy night in? And to follow – spider web cupcakes! These look so delicious and are so easy to do, so no excuses. Put on some spooky tunes and get your apron on.

#2: Pumpkin carving

There’s one easy way to brighten the place up, and that’s with a pumpkin. Get your housemates together and get carving! If you want to make things more interesting, turn it into a competition. You could see who can carve the fastest, or who makes the most creative pumpkin. Perhaps you could find a picture on the internet and whoever carves an image closest to the photo wins. Have you ever tried to paint a portrait of someone else? Cool. What about carving someone else’s face into a pumpkin? Didn’t think so. It will be a barrel of laughs!

#3: Movie night

If you are a big fan of true horror, you’re in luck. Netflix has just added Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street. If you prefer a more light-hearted Halloween movie night, The Addams Family will serve you well. Or if you don’t have the attention span for a film, try the new horror show The Haunting of Bly Manor for some bitesize scares!

#4: Get dressed up

Okay, so we might not be able to show off our outfits in public, but there’s nothing wrong with getting dressed up for the fun of it, right? Besides, I don’t know about you, but I’m a bit fed up with wearing leggings and a hoodie in my flat. If I’m staying in my flat on Halloween as well, I’m doing it in costume. If you fancy doing it in style but without the added cost or effort, why not go classic? You know what Sandy from Grease looks like – get yourself some black jeans and a leather jacket and you are good to go. If you have housemates, you could create a group look. There are so many fun and easy ideas like the Spice Girls, Mystery Inc., and the Addams family.

#5: Decorate

It’s all very well getting dressed up for Halloween, but you need to make sure your environment matches. If you fancy some cute lights to decorate the place, John Lewis have some little bat lights and they’re only £4. Also, B&M bargains has its name for a reason: they’re selling Halloween bunting for £1, and it’s adorable. Anything will do, get your creative juices flowing and get decorating!

A final note: if you wish, spread these ideas throughout the Halloween week. Or you could compile them all! Decorate the place, get dressed up, carve pumpkins, have a fancy dinner, and finish the night off with a Halloween movie! As said before, this year is going to look a little different than normal, but let’s make the most of it. Hopefully these ideas will give a little inspiration to get you started, and I hope you have a fun-filled and spooky Halloween!
