Whenever I walk into a Sephora, I get immediately overwhelmed by the options of foundations to choose from. As someone who has oily, acne-prone skin, it’s been hard to find a foundation that is long-lasting and won’t make me breakout. Over the years and hundreds of dollars later, I’ve finally discovered the best foundation for my skin type. If you’re in the same situation, read this article to determine yours.

Acne-prone skin

If you have acne-prone skin, you want to wear something that has enough coverage to conceal your blemishes while clearing your skin. I recommend trying the Neutrogena Skin Clearing Foundation or Clinique’s Acne Solutions Foundation to fight bacteria on your skin while at the same time covering up your pimples.

Oily skin

Buying foundation for oily skin is a struggle. Finding a formula that is long-lasting and mattifying is hard to come by. After years of researching for my own oily skin, I have found Estée Lauder’s double wear foundation to be a godsend. It not only mattifies your face, making you less prone to breaking out, but it also is extremely long-lasting. Also, if you have oily skin, stay away from foundations containing oils! Loreal Infallible foundation is another good foundation for oily skin.

Dry skin

If you have dry skin, I would recommend wearing a tinted moisturizer or a CC cream. Nars Tinted Moisturizer is something I wear in the winter for a hydrating formula that also gives me some coverage. For a foundation, IT Cosmetics: Your Skin but Better Foundation is an excellent formula to hydrate and give your skin a glow.

Normal to combination skin

If you have normal to combination skin, you don’t need to be too picky on the foundation you choose. Too Faced’s Born This Way Foundation is a cult favorite. As always, find a foundation that has good coverage and is long-lasting.

Sensitive skin

Finding a foundation that doesn’t irritate your skin is a challenge. Glossier’s skin tint is a good formula for sensitive skin while allowing a small amount of coverage. Make sure you patch test your foundation before you wear it.

I hope you try my foundation recommendations! I know a lot of higher-end foundations are expensive, but there are tons of drug-store foundations that will provide you with the same benefits. Good luck!
