When returning home from the busy semester, it can be difficult to keep in mind the different aspects of a lifestyle that can make you safe during the holiday season. Below are a few tips for after the semester ends.

Get Tested Before Returning Home

Prior to returning to your family, it is important to get tested for COVID-19. Knowing the results of the test can prepare you and your family what needs to be done: to either quarantine, or not worry. Proper precautions can limit the spread of the virus or transmit it to one of your family members.

Limit Social Gatherings Based on Your State’s Guidelines

With recent alerts and recommendations, it can be difficult to keep track of the guidelines being put into place of each state. Following the guidelines can aid in protecting both you and your family.

Boost Your Immune System

One of the most common ways to protect yourself from illness is boosting your immune system. This can be done in numerous ways such as taking vitamin supplements, eating fruits and vegetables every day, drinking plenty of water, and getting an adequate amount of sleep (~8 hours).

Manage Stress

Ways to manage your stress, which is crucial to proper functioning immune systems, is to take time for yourself such as reading, drawing, exercising, or hanging out with family. If your immune system becomes stressed out (too much contact with germs/bacteria), the response to other pathogens, such as a virus, will be impactful to one’s health. Wiping down areas that are regularly used, washing your hands when returning to the dorm room (or classes), and avoiding touching your face whenever possible.

These tips can allow for a proper return home and protecting oneself during difficult times.
