Take Control of Your Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

One thing about change is that you have to be open to it completely. Having a thought or idea contrary to your goal is definitely okay from time to time, but you will have to be ALL IN when it comes down to it.

Initiation

Like I said before, nobody will shape your life for you. You have to do that on your own (with a little splash of support from loved ones). This starts with acknowledging the qualities and aspects of your life that you want to change. Once you know those things, now is the time to figure out what needs to be done (this can be anything) to grow.

Positive Affirmations

Sending positive affirmations to yourself MOST DEFINITELY helps with growth and getting to a place that you want to be but aren’t there yet. Positive affirmations are words or phrases that you tell yourself everyday and believe it. I’m heavy on the “believing” part and I cannot stress it enough. Even if there is no hope or no physically possible way (that you can see) to make your affirmations into a reality, simply believing them will put you on a path to greatness that you saw coming because of the fact you had faith in your positive affirmations. Replaying your positive affirmations when you’re most comfortable will help you reflect on what was and what you want to be different. The more you repeat your daily postive affirmations, the easier it will be to focus on your goals for growth.

You Will Be Uncomfortable

Sometimes, to become a different you, you have to do things that you don’t normally do. These things may make you feel uncomfortable and out-of-place. Personally, feeling uncomfortable in unusual situations motivates me to keep going until I can wholeheartedly stand in my truth and feel comfortable. If you never feel uncomfortable in this life-changing journey, you may need to reevaluate what needs to be done in order for you to reach that point.

You can do this. Change and growth always takes time and you’re ALWAYS growing.
