As 2020 is quickly coming to a close, I’m sure most, if not all of us, have experienced some sort of hardship this year. We have spent the last ten months wearing masks, avoiding crowds and using excessive amounts of hand sanitizer.

Although I’m sure, there are a million more negatives than positives that this pandemic has brought us, I wanted to discuss some of the light that was shown in this dark time.

Neighbors Looking Out For Each Other

Throughout this pandemic, I have noticed countless acts of kindness done by strangers for strangers. Although times are tough, neighbors have been looking out for each other in more ways than ever before. Specifically, in my neighborhood, I have noticed that if one family gets sick, another family will do their shopping and drop it off at their front door if they cannot have it delivered. The way neighbors and strangers have been treating each other this year has given me somewhat of hope for humanity in the future.

Having Extended Family Time

Normally I have to force my brother to hangout with me, but the pandemic forced us into the same house for a ridiculous amount of time. That being said, it has not always been peaches and cream. We’ve definitely argued more than ever before, but at the same time, we’ve also become way closer than before. This is something I’m extremely grateful for, as I’m sure many others are too.

The Ability to Work/Do School From Home

Although I am unable to work from home, I have been able to attend all my classes from my bedroom. I, as well as many of my peers, love being able to go to class in our pajamas.

The Realization of What We Took For Granted

This pandemic has truly made me realize how much I have taken for granted in my life. I used to skip family events for work or spend the whole time on my phone. This is something I’ve grown to regret. If I could go back in time to a year ago and be more present while spending time with my extended family, I would do it in a heart beat.

New Taylor Swift (x2!!!)

I’m sure everyone knows that early this year Taylor dropped her eighth studio album, Folklore. It is definitely one of the best albums released this year. But just last week, Taylor released her ninth studio album, Evermore, as well. Even though this time has been tragic, Folklore and Evermore has given me something to be excited about again.

Overall, this year hasn’t been the best. It is something that will be written in history books forever. We all have suffered in some form, but we continue to overcome. Moving forward to 2021, all we can hope for is some sort of normalcy to return. Until then, let’s continue to look for the positives throughout a very negative time.
