Hello! I hope your winter break and holiday season was a safe and happy one. I was fortunate enough to have a lot of free time on my hands and a lot of that time was spent in the car listening to new podcasts! I found some really serious ones, ones that contain some pretty heavy conspiracies, but also others that are really funny and are filled with commentary and incredibly witty banter. Just to be clear, these are true crimes. Some of them can be dark and a little bit scary. Most of them have disclaimers during the episode, but I felt as if I should mention that some of the depictions can be graphic and obscene. Nonetheless, it’s interesting and, honestly, a really great time killer. Most if not all of these podcasts can be found on multiple platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, etc. These ones are from Apple Podcasts because that’s where I listen.
Accused
So, I might be a little unorthodox, but I happened to stumble upon season three of the podcast Accused created by Amber Hunt and Amanda Rossmann. The podcast as a whole follows suspicious deaths, but in season three it follows a death that is rather suspicious, to say the least. In the mid-1980s, David Bocks was a mechanic at a uranium processing plant. David had gone to work one day and then never returned. Completely and utterly vanished. Some people and officials argue that it was suicide. Other people and officials say that it was a homicide. I don’t want to give away too much because if I spoil it you won’t listen to it. Think about it though, a man vanishes from a uranium processing plant, during the Cold War, and some people disagree with the official story. The women who host the show go incredibly deep into detail. They’ve gone as far as recreating the dimensions of specific pieces of equipment and conducting experiments to test the likelihood of the official report happening. I highly recommend it and I would give it an 11 out of 10.

True Crime Campfire
This one is much less serious and much more lighthearted than a lot of the other ones that I listen to. This one is one of the ‘episode’ podcasts as compared to the ‘seasons’ podcasts, but it is still really interesting. The creators Katie and Whitney examine some of the craziest cases I have ever heard. One of my favorite parts about the podcast is that the name of it is very fitting. The creators truly make the podcast sound like scary stories you would talk about and joke about with friends around a campfire. The podcast probably goes into the backstories a lot more in-depth than what friends might, but it’s still hilarious and something to put on and chuckle with when you’re in the mood to unplug.

Man In The Window
The LA Times and Wondery have created this podcast in order to dissect the man who became famously known as the Golden State Killer. If you know anything about his crimes in general, you will know that his crimes were violent and cruel. If any of these podcasts need a warning about the content of the podcasts, it is this one. Don’t worry, the podcast itself also has warnings within it. The podcast begins with the history and what may have created the monster that was the Golden State Killer. It then goes on and talks about the first crimes he committed and how it escalated. It also mentions the ways in which he was caught. While his crimes are disgusting, it actually briefly talks about how his crimes changed the way that we protect ourselves and mentions the things that were implemented because of him. The podcast also talks about the trauma and the pain he caused so many women over so many years. It is heartbreaking but angeringly binge-worthy.
I think that is all for now, but I can tell you that I won’t be stopping anytime soon. I should have some more recommendations in the future. I really enjoy listening to podcasts when I’m on long drives or when I’m cleaning, or even when I am trying to relax. I hope you enjoy these.
