6 Valentine’s Day Movies That Deserve to be Watched This Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

Whether you love Valentine’s Day or cannot stand its existence, I think we can all admit that the holiday has led to more than a handful of entertaining movies. These movies are so fun to watch, even if they aren’t cinematic masterpieces.

I have taken it upon myself to list to best Valentine’s Day movies below; I’m sure you’ve seen a good deal of them, but the beauty of the genre is that they can be rewatched with exactly the same excitement as the first time.

Valentine’s Day

This one is a no-brainer. Its star-studded cast (Patrick Dempsey, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba and Anne Hathaway, to name a few) is enough to make the movie worth watching without knowing anything about the plot. Thankfully, the plot is enjoyable anyways, and seeing how all of the characters’ lives intertwine is a delight every time.

The Notebook

I don’t think this list could be complete without “The Notebook.” Obviously, it’s impossible to watch without crying, so make sure you’re in the right mood for this one as opposed to more of a feel-good classic. On the other hand, if Valentine’s Day makes you emotional, why not turn this movie on and just seal the deal?

Sleepless in Seattle

Truth be told, I did not finish this movie and it’s absolutely on my list of things to do. However, the plot is centered around Valentine’s Day, so it is also an essential part of this list. If I’m being entirely transparent, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are reason enough to turn on this feel-good favorite.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Personally, I ADORE this Netflix original and have watched it more times than I can count. It has the cutest love story and is the perfect, versatile Valentine’s Day movie to watch with a partner, friend or by yourself. Lara Jean and Peter are better company than most, anyways.

My Best Friend’s Wedding

I’m adding this movie to the list because the plot has always been a surprise to me. It is definitely a different kind of love story, which is refreshing on a day where most things tend to have the exact same theme. Side note: any Julia Roberts movie is perfect for Valentine’s Day.

No Strings Attached // Friends With Benefits

There’s a reason I put these movies in the same point; they truly have the exact same plot, and the debate over which one is better is never-ending (“Friends with Benefits” gets my vote, but to each their own). Both movies are hilarious, sweet and the epitome of a classic rom-com.

There are obviously scores of romantic comedies and Valentine’s Day-inspired movies/shows that you can sift through, but I hope this list gives you some idea of what will make your watch-list come Feb. 14.
