6 Best Rom-Coms To Binge Watch This Valentines Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

While Valentine’s Day under normal circumstances usually consists of going out to dinner with your S/O or some girlfriends, 2021 looks a little different. With the pandemic still in full swing, it’s extremely important that we all are safe and socially distanced by staying home. But don’t worry! You can have a super fun night in for Valentine’s 2021 by watching some V-day classics. Whether you’re single or super loved up for this holiday, staying cozy at home while binging some rom-coms is definitely the way to go.

Holidate

While this movie is set during Christmas, it definitely still gives us V-day rom-com vibes. And I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for excuses to watch any Christmas movies. This holiday rom-com movie is one of Netflix’s newest and most popular films. Starring the iconic Emma Roberts, this movie gives me total wholesome Hallmark movie energy, which is honestly just what we need sometimes. Holidate follows the love story of Sloane and Jackson where they initially pretend to be each other’s S/O to avoid judgment from Sloane’s family. Obviously, this leads to a lot more between the two which leads us to a super cute ending that we just can’t stop rewatching.

The Perfect Date

If you’re looking for a netflix rom-com with ex-Disney Channel stars Noah Centineo and Laura Marano, The Perfect Date is the Valentine’s movie for you! The movie follows main character Brooks Rattigan—played by Noah Centineo—as he tries to earn money to pay for his dream university. He develops an app to make money and act as a stand-in date for other high school girls in the area. Along the way, he meets two completely different girls and is at a crossroads as to who he wants to be with.

Valentine’s Day

This is my absolute favourite Valentine’s Day movie of all time! Featuring Julia Roberts, Taylor Swift, Anne Hathaway and Ashton Kutcher, this V-day classic is the perfect combination of funny, relatable and lovey-dovey. The movie follows multiple couples as they navigate through their relationships during the romance season. From romantic proposals to painfully-cringey high school relationships, this movie will definitely have something that anyone can relate to. And, if you’re single don’t worry! One of the main characters’ storylines involves her struggle with being single during Valentine’s Day and how she learns to embrace that towards the end of the movie. Also, if you love this movie as much as I do, check out the second movie, New Year’s Eve, in the unofficial trilogy of rom-coms directed by Garry Marshall.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Another classic Netflix film is To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, featuring Noah Centineo and Lana Condor. I’m sure everyone has heard this movie, and it’s probably on the top of every teenage rom-com movie list out there, for good reason! It is the perfect combination of teenage drama, wholesome romance and relatable moments. This movie is based on the book series by Jenny Han which I highly recommend. Also, make sure to check out the sequels, To All The Boys: P.S I Still Love You, and To All The Boys: Always and Forever (coming out in 2021).

Love, Simon

Another teenage 21st century favorite is Love, Simon. This movie follows high school tenager Simon Spier as he navigates his love life. While he quickly develops a connection with another boy in school (under the pseudonym “Blue”) he faces challenges with telling his friends and family about his sexuality. This movie is so incredibly real and heartwarming which is definitely the right vibe for Valentine’s Day 2021 this year.

Love Actually

Last but not least, this early 2000’s movie is one of my absolute go-to Valentine’s Day rom-coms. As another Christmas-centered love story, the story follows eight couples as they deal with various challenges with their relationships. Featuring Kiera Knightley, Hugh Grant and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, this movie will make you laugh, cry and feel super emotional (all in the best way possible).

I absolutely love all of these movies so much and cannot wait to binge watch them during Valentine’s Day this year. Regardless of whether you’re spending the day by yourself, with friends or with a significant other, make sure to stay safe and have fun!
