Ranking my favorite Taylor Swift albums: i wanted to give all of them a 1

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

If you are a fan of Taylor Swift I assume you’ve heard about how she doesn’t own some of her music. I will also assume that you are outraged for her and are so excited for her rereleases to drop. Well…last night one dropped!! If you haven’t heard, “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” dropped this morning (feb. 12th) and it was amazing. Although the song still sounds like the original everyone knows and loves, this one is definitely more polished, and…she owns it (and that’s really what matters most)! Because of all the excitement that this release and the clues left on Instagram have given me, I am going to be ranking my favorite Taylor Swift albums.

Disclaimer: this was actually really difficult, and all albums are amazing, so I decided to define my favorites as being the ones that have the songs I listen to the most.

Speak Now

Speak Now is the first Taylor Swift album that I had on cd, so it has a special place in my heart. When I drive around I will still put this cd in sometimes and listen all the way through. My favorites from this album are probably “Dear John” and “Haunted”. They both have different vibes but are equally amazing.

Reputation

Now I must admit, I was a hater when this album first came out. I think that’s because I didn’t like the singles that were released for the album so I thought I would hate the entire thing. However, after I listened to the whole things I loved it. I love how much Swift’s sound changes in this album. My favorites from this album are probably “End Game” and “Dress”.

Red

I also have this album on a cd in my car. I do reach for this album when I drive sometimes, but I usually just skip to particular songs. The songs on this album that I love, I love a lot. But there are also a lot of songs that have been really overplayed. My favorites from this album are “All Too Well” (ik it’s probably everyone’s favorite) and “The Last Time”. I really like the slow music in the second song.

Evermore

This is Swift’s most recent album, which came as a surprise to me when it dropped. I feel so calm when I listen to this album. It makes me want to run around in the woods. Anyone else? I love so many of the songs, but I think my favorites are “champagne problems” and “marjorie”.

Fearless Platinum Edition

I know the classic album is good, but I like this extended version better. There are so many good songs that get missed out on if you are just listening to the original album. I do not go to play these songs as often, but when one comes on you know I will be yelling the words. I remember when I was younger my favorite songs from this album were “Breathe” and “Forever and Always”.

Folklore

This album also came out relatively recently. I have not listened to this album as much as I have listened to Evermore. I still think it is a great album, I was just preoccupied with Glass Animals when it dropped. I think my favorite songs from this album are “exile” and “the 1”. I do hear a lot of these songs on Tik Tok though.

1989

I actually saw Taylor Swift in concert when she was on tour for this album! The performance was so cool, and we got glow bracelets that were synchronized with the music. I loved this album so much at the time, but I just don’t listen to a lot of the songs anymore. My favorites are probably “I Wish You Would” and “Out Of The Woods” but when she plays it on the piano.

Taylor Swift

I got more into Taylor Swift when Fearless was out, so I did not listen to this album as much. I do have the piano music for the songs from this album and did try to learn them. I also remember constantly watching the Swift’s live performance of “Should’ve Said No” when it rains on stage because I thought it was so cool. Idk if you know what I’m talking about, but that performance solidified that song as my favorite from this album.

Lover

I never listen to songs from this album. The most I ever listened was when my roommate played the album on loop. I think I ran into the same situation with this album that I had with Reputation, but then I just never cared enough to listen. I think my favorite song would have to be “The Man” though because I love the message.

Thank you for bearing through this article and take this as a sign to go listen to your favorite Taylor Swift album (or playlist) all the way through!
